T Tubes vs. PE tubes?

Patty just popped her fourth set of PE tubes in the past 2 1/2 years. This set

lasted all of 6 weeks Our ENT suggested wants to use a different kind of

tube which he called a T Tube, but he said there was a higher risk of

perforation. We agreed to wait 3 months and see if she has any more infections

(she had 5 in the 10 months that the tubes were out last year).

Does anyone have an experience w/ T Tubes in aided ears?

Patty seems awfully old (9 last week) to still be having so many infections. We

did not have nearly this problem when she was little. Any ideas ? (she already

doesn't drink milk)

Hi Sheri! I don't have any experience with T tubes and HA's, but one of

my boys had the same problem with his PE tubes falling out, and we had

the T tubes put in (he's not aided). They worked so well that they had

to take him back to surgery several years later to have them removed.

We had the T Tubes also now we are having surgery from them falling out and

causing sever holes in the ear drum. I do with they would come up with

something better we still have sever ear infections.

Does she have pain in her ears? Do the ears drain quite often? Does the

drainage have a foul odor? Are you keeping the earmolds very clean? Has

the infection been cultured?

I cannot say why your daughter is having so many infections. But my

daughter was having numerous infections and at age ten was finally

diagnosed with infections in the mastoid bones. Something you might want to

consider.

You also might want to try washing the earmolds in a solution of 50% vinegar

and 50% distilled water. The vinegar will prevent the bacteria from

reproducing.
