Guest guest
Hello everyone, Well, I had my HSG appointment this morning at 9:00a.m. Bad news- they couldn't get the darn catheter in through my cervix-two different Dr's tried. I almost started to cry-not because of the pain, but I felt so discouraged and stressed. I was trying to breathe my way through the bad cramps, and one of the nurses was so kind to hold my hand during the whole thing. Well, at 10:30 a.m., they gave up. I didn't have the HSG today, and now I have to go to my OBGYN on January 9th so she can dialate my cervix, then go acroos the street to radiology and attempt this one more time-I hope it works. Does anyone know anything about a Federal mandate law that requires insurance companies to pay for things like the HSC, since a septate uterus is something we were born with? I need all the info I can get. My insurance will only pay 50% of infertility (diagnostic only). AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! Any information is welcome-please! Thank you all for being an awesome support group! HUGS TO ALL!!!!!!! love, Amy __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Amy, I'm so sorry that they couldn't make things work today. They had trouble with my HSG too, but ended up using some kind of suction??? catheter and it worked. I DID cry and I'm not normally a woos. So, good for you for being strong! Anyway, I'm glad that they can at least attempt to do the test another way. I didn't realize that they could do that. I'm sorry that you'll have to wait though. I don't know anything about that federal mandate. It's not the HIPPA thing - is it? I think that's about being covered for pre-existing conditions - but it's got a bunch of different things. I'd started to do some research on these things, but didn't get very far. Your insurance shouldn't necessarily consider this infertility. My docs put uterine anomaly as my diagnosis so that I could get all of my diagnostic testing paid for. My insurance wouldn't pay for infertility treatments at all. You might want to check into that. Hopefully my babbling helped a bit. Tara
Guest guest
Amy -- sorry to hear about your painful, disappointing day. Sounds like my first HSG, which was discontinued due to " patient discomfort " I think my fingernail marks are still on the radiology metal table!!! The second time, my ob told the radiologist what she needed to look for because of my vaginal septum and two cervices (common to UD). He even offered to come over and insert the catheter, which was nice of him. The second time I also --not under a drs direction -- took a darvocet left over from my husband's sinus surgery, about 30 minutes prior to the procedure. The second time was sooo much better. As to the insurance issue, I'm not sure that an HSG for an MA necessarily has to be coded as for infertility. It can cause serious problems AFTER conception -- is that a fertility issue??? Mine was covered and we had pretty average to below-average insurance at the time. A lot has to do with how the ordering doctor codes the test and the reasons for it. > >

> > > > Hello everyone,
> Well, I had my HSG appointment this morning at
> 9:00a.m.
> Bad news- they couldn't get the darn catheter in
> through my cervix-two different Dr's tried. Guest guest
Hi Amy, HOW FRUSTRATING!!! I'm glad they're rescheduling you. It sounds like your medical team was very supportive. On the plus side, when you *do* become pregnant I bet you won't have to worry about having an incompetant cervix. When that puppy's closed, it stays closed! Take care ... I'm so sorry for your disappointment. ~
Guest guest
Amy, Oh, I'm sorry for your HSG experience. It's hard enough to go through that proceduere without the stress you went through. And to be worried about insurance coverage on top of it, it's really not fair. Being Canadian, I don't have any answers for that, but I wish you luck on the next try... I had a hysteroscopy last summer, and I have 2 cervices, and they got the scope through the first cervix, and tried and tried for the second, and couldn't do it. It was the worst...my Dr. tried, and she had an intern who also tried, and he was SO determined, that the Dr. had to very firmly tell him to stop because I was so obviuosly in pain!! I'm thinking that when he becomes a Dr. he'll be kind of scary... Sorry again for your experience. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
