" Letter From Lady Liberty "

by: Raina Dodson, EMT-Paramedic

Though you have stolen my tears,

You have not touched my soul

Though you have taken

the lives of my children

You have strengthened my spirit

You have made heros stand

And Americans remember

Why we exist

Who we are

A lesson, perhaps, we needed to remember.

Most crushing to your cause

Is the gift of many

Who, knowing death to be the truer possibility,

Chose instead to protect and serve

And gave their lives in sacrifice

Unlike your dismal charade of glory in death

My children attained the honor

You so vainly envisioned

Yours only served to condemn

While mine served to strengthen

Laugh while you can

While I cry my tears of sorrow

My anger will resolve

My pain will be attended

and my children will live

And America, the land of the free,

Home of the true brave,

Will carry forth her dreams

While yours settle to ashes.

We are sleeping no more.
