Guest guest
When you have a c-section, they go into the uterus with one cut, and remove the baby then sew it up. The incision on the outside (skin and layers down to uterus) may not be the same as the one in the uterus. You could have a bikini cut on the skin, but a midline (vertical) in the uterus. These days, because the bikini, or Pfannensteil, is considered stronger, they usually have that cut in the uterus, but especially if they need to take the baby quickly because of distress or some other problem a woman might have a vertical incision. It has always been thought that you had to have a repeat c-section after a vertical in the uterus. Now, there is some controversy about vbac (vaginal birth after cesarean) because some of those statistics are worrisome. Mostly I think it has to do with litigation. However, when you have a myomectomy, the incisions in the uterus are made in the areas required to remove the tumors. You might have one, but you might have multiple and although you might have a bikini on the skin, you might have all sorts of cuts in different directions in your uterus. My surgeon said he might have to " cut my uterus to ribbons " pre-surgery, but was delighted he got away with only two cuts. I am waiting for the report to learn where they are, but since I don't plan to have a baby (over 50), it is not an issue for me, but I can see where a c-section after most myomectomies makes sense. They say that after myo you can have problems w/ your uterine wall being weakened. What I want to know is how is this any different that a woman who gets needs a cesarean to deliver her baby. I know someone who had all three of her children via c section. They are going in and cutting open your uterus every time to deliver that baby and stitching it back up. How is this any different? I keep reading horror stories about rupturing the uterus during the last part of pregnancy or during labor. This is frightening!! Kristi Gay Courter gay@...
