Guest guest
Dear Forum, Installations of Condom vending machines are creating news; I recollect, when I was a college student I did participate in the discussions against computer and its potential to let many jobless, reducing human creativity and so on. The debate still has its strong points but yet we live with it, and feel the ecstasy when new software versions are offered to experiment with. We struggle hard to win over and catch up with the digital advancements. But I wonder how people claim that condoms promote promiscuity? More to my surprise Dr. Meera’s contention that “if condom vending machines were installed, youngsters would be tempted to indulge in such acts” is seemingly a new invention. I wonder whether condom vending machines have properties that can create temptation in youngsters! Is there any evidence or studies that cite contraception promote promiscuity? Some groups recently were apprehensive that installation of condom vending machine will increase incidence of rape. I wonder the possible evolution of new breed of health conscious rapists. However I am of the opinion that installation of condom vending machines should be made with discretion. For example installations at colleges could send out a message that early sexual encounters are socially acceptable. Be it there in places like the public toilets where people who hesitate to purchase it and are in need of condom could access them in privacy. Think of the rag pickers, street children. Awareness is building up but access is denied to them. Condom is not for people who do not want sex, it is for people who want it and want to ensure that they have it safe. Let us not deny their right to play it safe and make them vulnerable to unwanted infections. E-mail: <awaazdho@...>
