Guest guest
My best advice is to start small... don't try to incorporate all the steps at once 'cause it won't work. Like I suggested to Robyn (and am working on doing myself), maybe you could set a small goal, and just work on that... like eating ONLY when you're hungry. Then, when you've got that one down, work on the next step (which could be stopping at " satisfied " , or ignoring your " Food police " /diet mentality). Or, as you said, you could just work on NOTICING when you're eating, and maybe why. That's what the two ladies in my face-to-face support group found helpful... they had a hard time incorporating the steps, but they became much more aware of how often they were eating, and teh reasons behind why they were eating (since it wasn't always from true hunger). Guest guest
Have you read the book by Tribole? The library might have it if you don't want to buy it. The very first step for me was to make all foods legal. I tried to really think about what I wanted to eat when I was hungry. You'd think it would be all of the things you've always thought of as forbidden, but that isn't necessarily the case. I love doughnuts, but don't really want to eat one when I'm physically hungry. They don't keep me full for long, and make me feel slightly queasy. So even though I COULD eat one for breakfast, I don't usually CHOOSE to do so. The next steps have been to slow down my eating (I usually eat as though someone is going to steal my plate away) and try to stop when satisfied. I almost always eat whatever is on my plate and have a very, very hard time leaving food there. So I started serving myself smaller and smaller and smaller portions until I figured out how much food usually satisfies me. The other night we had waffles, sausage, and homemade fried potatoes. I had one waffle, about 1/3 of a sausage, and about half a cup of potatoes. I wasn't too full and wasn't hungry any longer, so that was perfect. Later I was a bit hungry (eating this way usually means I get hungry every 2-3 hours) so I had a small dish of ice cream. I savored it and felt okay. I really wanted more, but choose not to have more. >So, I wanted to ask for advice. When starting with IE, what are the first >steps that helped you. I just need some >help with not being so overwhelmed with all the information. Thank you. _________________________________________________________________ Add a Yahoo! contact to Windows Live Messenger for a chance to win a free trip! http://www.imagine-windowslive.com/minisites/yahoo/default.aspx?locale=en-us & hmt\ agline

Well, unfortunately I live in Serbia and our libraries do not have these books =(. But I do have the book Thin Within. A friend from the US had sent that once to me. So, I should probably read that again. Thank you for your practical advice. I also eat very fast and have seconds always. But I think waiting for hunger and stopping judging myself would be the first step probably. Natalija from Serbia

Guest guest
I shop at www.alibris.com for all my books. I think I get a pretty good deal. Try using a small plate when you eat and then having seconds won’t put you past full. Guest guest
Vicki, I LOVE this idea about the plate. I used to do this way back in those deprivation days- somehow made it look like I was eating a lot more, cause I was usually starving! le Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless handheld Re: So, where do I start?  > Have you read the book by Tribole?
