The following website has information that I would want at my

disposal if I were to have more children:

child. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on where to

research pregnancy after ThyCa and RAI? I've talked to my doctor and

she said there is no reason not to get pregnant. She said the only

thing to take in consideration is the increased need for thyroid

hormone during pregnancy and the need for my levels to be closely

monitored by her. I know you should wait 6 months to one year after

RAI to get pregnant. My biggest questions are is pregnancy going to

increase my chance for a reoccurrence, will my baby be harmed in any

way from synthroid, can I breast feed safely while on synthroid, and

what are the odds of my child getting ThyCa?

hi laura,

i had my thyroids removed only to find out that i was

pregnant during the surgery. it didn't show up on the

blood work before hand , so they figure i was maybe a

week pregnant.

2 weeks after the surgery i was scheduled for my first

rai , they called me and told me i couldn't because i

was pregnant.

my son was born with out any problems.

in 1999 i had my third son after having rai 3 months

before i got pregnant.

i was considered high risk and was monitored very

closely through out . my boys are all just fine ,

right now. they get checked to make sure they don't

develope any future problems.

in my opinion i would advise aginst getting pregnant

untill at least 1 year after rai to avoid having to

worry so much.

thank you,

michelle barth

Hi, -

You've gotten some excellent responses from the group, but I didn't notice

answers to your last questions, regarding Synthroid.

Synthroid (or any other brand of levothyroxine) will not harm your baby in any

way, either in utero, or through breast feeding. In spite of the fact that we

have been seeing some familial thyca connections, the prevailing wisdom is that

your child will have no greater odds of getting thyca than it would if you

didn't have it.
