Great news about the clean scan!!!!!!!!!!!!

About your TSH--do you know how high it went, & when it " peaked " ? As I

understand it, w/ Thyrogen being essentially injectable TSH, there's sort of

a window when the body becomes extremely hypo (explaining your feeling ill

there briefly, I'd think) & TSH is thus very high. I'm wondering how large

that window is--how long the TSH stays elevated. And how good local

docs/hospitals are likely to be at catching patients at the right time to

dose w/ RAI. See what I mean? Did they discuss that w/ you?

Let us know your TG & TSH results as of dose day, when you get them (if you

don't mind). I'm curious as to how this works, practically speaking.

Abby,

Congrats on your Thyrogen scan. Just wanted you to know that your Thyrogen

experience absolutely parallels mine. I had the flu-like feelings, headache,

and nausea but it was certainly more tolerable than being hypo. Like you, I was

also feeling MUCH better by that Thursday.

talk about thyrogen (done over 300 of them), how impressed he is with our

wonderful Thyca group, and about the local Thyca support group that I'm

trying to get together. Yada, yada, yada... Whaaaaaat? You expected me to

get to the point? After the small talk came the first injection of thyrogen

in my right hip (No, not lower Leah).

That evening I started feeling kinda weighted down, couldn't describe it any

better. The following day I got the second injection in my left hip. That

evening I felt totally wasted. My entire body felt achy; even my hands

started to hurt. It reminded me of how I usually feel when I have a fever.

I guess those were the flu-like symptoms that I'd heard about. I was also

hit with a grandiose headache and big time nausea. Basically I slept a lot

that day.

On Wednesday, I again had blood work (TSH,TG) done. Then on to the hospital

where I ingested the lovely little 4mCi RAI pill. Nothing tough there. I

was still a bit out of it from the previous day. By Thursday I was feeling

better. There were no procedures scheduled for that day. Friday was scan

day at the hospital. Prior to that, TSH and TG were again drawn. After the

scan I was told that I could eat REAL FOOD again. Don't ya know that

ran out and got me a bagel with cream cheese/lox, a Dunkin Donuts French

vanilla coffee, and a donut. What a guy!

Unfortunately for me though, Dr. Margouleff wasn't in on Friday (away for the

Memorial Day weekend), so I had to wait until Wednesday to get the results.

I cried when I got home. It wasn't that I feared the results. It was cuz I

was soooo emotionally drained.

Doc Margouleff called me first thing yesterday morning to tell me that it was

a CLEAN SCAN! YIPPEE! He's just waiting for the results of the blood work

that had been done after I had the two injections.

That's basically it gang. For me, thyrogen proved to be the best way to go.

I really do lousy going hypo. But obviously if I had to stop taking my

synthroid I would. Hope all is well with youse...

Thanks to all of you who post their Thyrogen experiences. Considering

that we will all have some sort of monitoring for the rest of our lives,

it is important to read about the Thyrogen method for watching our

thyca.

I envision all of us at 90, saying, " Remember when we used to have to go

off medication and endure hypo hell to be scanned? Gosh....how things

have changed! " At least that is my fantasy!

Abby, I read your email on your thyrogen experience, it has kind of

scared me. I don't want to feel sick and achy like the flu. Maybe going

hypo isn't as bad as I thought??? In your opinion would you always do

Thyrogen instead of going hypo??? How long would you say you really

felt bad, and then started to feel like yourself again??

Thanks for the input, I want to be sure I make the right choice, before

my next scan.
