Well if you are going to pick a place to live, Florida is a

wonderful place to choose. At least you've got the beaches &

wonderful ocean breeze down there. Randy(I think) is in wonderful

Hawaii but Florida has one major advantage over it- it's not an

island! It's nice to know you can go somewhere far away without

necessarily having fly.

We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for you & Net-a-lee(I hope I

spelled that right). You both deserve the smoothest surgery of all

time.

Good luck,

Georgia

Guess what? I was born in FL as well!! Moved to CA when I was about

3 but have been back to visit a lot of times (mostly because a lot of

the cruise ships I've worked on go out of Miami).

Yep I'm on #3 as well except that my surgery is probably going

to be around the holidays. I'll have a better estimate once I get my

braces on. I'm trying to find a way to pay for the ortho work at the

moment. I'll have good benefits once I start my new job but I'm not

sure how soon that will kick in.

My goal is to get the braces on at the end of this month or beg of

July at the latest but it could possibly take longer, I'll just have

to wait and see.

I'm really glad I have this site to support me throughout the

treatment (whenever it starts!)

Ciao for now,

Neta-lee

Ya know,

All of this talk of Florida has got me thinkin'....I live in Miami

and my surgery is tentatively scheduled for August (height of

hurricane season). Ten years ago I survived Hurricane which

destroyed my house entirely and knocked out our electricity for six

weeks. What if *shudder* we have another one while I'm recovering?

I won't be able to use my blender, won't have air conditioning,

phones will be knocked out so I can't even call my surgeon. Any

thoughts on this? Or am I over dramatizing?

--Cheryl, I too was in Fla when hit. Luckily I was in Ft

Lauderdale, but my friend lived in Kendall and their house too was

pretty demolished. You can't worry about the " what ifs " but you do

have a major concern, especially knowing first hand the kind of damage

that a hurricane can do. Do you have a generator? Obviously, you

should always be prepared if a hurricane hits (like we should if an

earthquake hits). If I were you, I would just make sure you are

prepared as you can be, but don't let that weigh too much on your

mind. A couple of times, thoughts would go through my head " What if

there is an earthquake during surgery and the power goes out or the

hospital is damaged? " And at least with hurricanes, you can " prepare "

for them, earthquakes come with no warning.

Don't worry my friend. Everything will be AOK. Donna

Thanks, Donna,

I guess you're right and this falls under the category of " in God's

hands " . I'll try not to worry about it. My dear husband suggested

possibly booking a hotel room in Ft. Lauderdale for the 2 weeks

following my surgery. That way if worst comes to worst and a major

storm hits us directly (highly improbable I know but that's my

nature) we could get in the car and head up there. 'Course you

usually get about 48 hours in which to cancel a reservation without

being charged for the room and about 9 hours notice of an impending

storm. *Sigh*.

The good news is that our house is completely shuttered and would

withstand a storm much better than our old one did. I have no

intention of finding out, however. If a hurricane even looks at me

funny I'm " outta here " .

Hi Cheryl. Remember that day about a month ago when tornadoes touched

down all over the East Coast? We had one touch down a quarter mile

from our home. It zig zagged back and forth along the river where we

live.(Pennsylvania, who would have thought?)

Thank goodness we personally suffered no damamge. But it was rough,

no power for 18 hours, no water. I drank mostly the broth from

canned soups that my boys heated up on their camp stoves, also lots

of juices. (but the warm ones from the cupboard as I didn't want to

open the frig.)

I managed, but I think if I had my choice or some warning, I would

have left too. Not time to play " Survivor. " I think it's a good

idea to have a plan in mind.

Bu of course, just because you're braced and ready for the Big One,

you know it won't happen.

Think positive & don't do anything to tempt Mother Nature,

Holy Moly, Miz Lexi! You just tempted fate for sure for me...

I live on the Gulf Coast. And guess which season started June 1...

Hurricane season. Everybody sez we're due this year -- we haven't had

a bad one since Frederic in 79.

WAHHHHHHHH! See what I baby I am!!!

I did Betsy. I did Camille. I did Frederic. I did Opal, and Danny and

on the second bounce, and others whose names I do not remember.

I do not want the heat with no A/c. I do not want the struggle for

ice. I do not want NO POWER!!!

Is there a patron saint of hurricanes? Or of protection from 'em? The

Carmelite nuns used to keep 'em away from us, but somehow their

powers seem to be waning since '79... Oh, dear. Now I'll pre-worry

about THAT (my last major pre-worry having been exorcised Tuesday

night) until June 25.

Wow, Lexi,

I think you can safely say you've " been through it all " now...then

again, better not to tempt fate. Glad that your family and home were

spared.
