You are presenting a difficult issue, but let me see if in general I can

give you some guidelines.

Looking for lymph nodes in the neck, an ultrasound is simpler and you don't

need to go hypo.

Getting a RAI scan of the area helps only if you have thyroid cells that

take up a reasonable amount of iodine, and this is NOT the case in many

thyroid cancers.

If you have enlarged lymph nodes in the neck after a thyroidectomy for

thyroid cancer, you have to be cautious.

If they are tender, it will be less likely to be due to thyroid cancer. By

and large lymph node metastasis are not tender.

If the lymph node enlargement is due to thyroid cancer, most of the times

you have some other enlarged lymph nodes that appear in the ultrasound of

the neck. You can biopsy them. If they are positive, it is not a big deal.

New surgery in the area can remove them very effectively and you go on with

your life as usual. At the most you may need some radiotherapy treatment as

well.

One word of caution: Local neck growth of thyroid cancer may NOT increase

your serum levels of thyroglobulin. This is one of the pitfalls of serum

thyroglobulin determinations. They are not that good with local recurrence

inthe neck.

These are general guidelines and you should check with your doctor to find

out what is best in your individual case.

Hello all,

I'm Jeri and I'm currently a freshman in college (well, sophomore technically,

but shh). Anyways, I've been

going through some rough times - just trying to get into the swing of things as

a student and such. It's

been hard - and consequently I've been obessing about my weight, calories, and

exercise. I'm not

overweight by any means but I FEEL like i am...I have stomach problems on top of

this all so I need to

watch what I eat anyways...basically, due to a lot of stresses I've become

obsessed with body image.

It turns out that part of this is due to a general anxiety disorder/OCD that

I've suffered from for quite

some time. It's now being treated and I feel like I might actually stand a

chance against my constant self-

examination/hatred. I recently began seeing a therapist and nutrtionist and

I've finished reading " Intuitive

Eating " ....what a great book! It's been a constant struggle to allow myself to

eat what I want but I think

I'm finally moving in that directon.

I was hoping to find some like-minded people here and get some support as well.

Hope you are all finding success in your lives,

Jeri
