Diane, I lived on Long Island for 4 yrs and still know a few people there.

Let me email them and ask them if they know of anyone!

Also, will you email me (privately) with the names of the SLP's who can't

work with her so perhaps we can find you a NEW one.

, what about Dawnmarie???

Well, I just got bad news. The private speech teacher that we have been

using for the past two years for Kara will not be able to fit her in this

September. I need to find another SLP. I live in Long Island. Any one know

of any that come to the house? I live in Suffolk. Also are there any

publications or groups that I can post to?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Diane, Kara's mom, 2yo hoh

Have you asked her? I think she would be the best one to ask for a

suggestion since she knows your child's abilities best and probably knows,

at least by reputation, other speech teachers who can best meet your child's

needs.

Yes, she suggested three people, in fact she called them for me and they are

all booked up and are not taking any one else.

Kay, is there a resource I can turn to, or do you think I should stick to

local agencies?

You'll have to remind me of the communication options you've chosen for your

child and I'll see if I can at least give you some ideas or at least a

direction (I think I remember, but with the volume of mail I receive, I

prefer not to make assumptions).

OK

Kara is three. She was diagnosed at 1 1/2. She is in an aural/oral program

at BOCES. We don't use any sign and she is very verbal and speaks clear.

The teachers at school sometimes cover for AVT. She has about 500 words and

puts 4 to 5 word sentences together. She has a severe loss in both ears.

The cause of her loss is genetic, connexin 26 test proved this. She wears

widex sensos p38s with the microlink boot. She loves school and her current

SLP.

I think this will help you to help me,

thanks,

Diane

> I think this will help you to help me,

You're right, but since Orla knows the folks in the area, I'll let her

handle it. I'll need to know within a week or so though if you're having any

luck because if you're seeing who I think you're seeing, she'll be out of

touch off and on in a couple of weeks.

Good luck and let us know how things works out.

Well, Dawnmarie is pretty booked right now, but I'll ask her. Also,

Lorretta, a speech therapist where I work is another good possibility. I'll

ask her too and get back to you.
