I am definitely not an expert on Visual Phonics, I only took one class on

it. But I will explain what it is according to the information I rec'd in

the class. VP is a system which associates each sound in our language with

a hand signal and a graphic symbol.

The difference between sign language and vp is, vp motions represent sounds,

not letters or words as sign does. The difference between VP and Cued

Speech is VP is not a method of communication. To communicate with VP would

be as tedious as fingerspelling each word. It is simply a visual way for

HI/deaf/Deaf kids to " see " the sounds of words.

I am going to have the school try it this next school year for our 2 deaf

daughters phonics-time in class. We'll see.......

The choices do get confusing. I think everyone here would agree that we all

want to do the best with the time we have with our school-aged deaf children

during their school years. We will all have to live with the choices we

have made. That is a great burden put on all of us. Obviously, we all care

a great deal, or we wouldn't spend all the time we do on the computers

gleaning information from other families.

Thanks for the info! I think the main difference between Cued Speech and

Visual Phonics, as you've explained it to me, is that Visual Phonics

doesn't incorporate the lips with the hand signals. Yes, parents in this

group do seem to care a great deal. I'm glad I found it.
