Hi Abigail,

I am a member of the VPF list and happened to see your e-mail about your

undetected infection. You say that you have had this infection for 8 years?

You also stated that your infection was causing all the vulvar irritaiton and

soreness. Well, I am having the same problem. Constant and cronic excessive

thick/creamy yellow discharge, it looks like pus coming out of the vagina.

My cervix has been cronically red/inflammed as well. Most of my cultures

were coming back all negative at first (this was one (l) year ago) I have

been so irritated by the discharge that I thought I had VV or VVS, because of

all the symptoms being similar, but I finally put everything together and

made the discharge and irritation connection. Actually, I never thought I

had VV or VVS, but when I would go the the GYN and they would culture me for

EVERYTHING it was always negative, they would just put me on antibiotics and

say, " see if this helps " . So, I was the good patient, and took the

antibiotics. When they didn't work, I would go on to see another doctor and

again more cultures, more antibiotics. Finally, one doctor did say that my

cervix was inflammed and stenosed (cervical canal narrowing). He put me on

10 days of Doxacycline (antibiotic) because he said that the yellow discharge

was from the cervicitis, it made sense to me....however the discharge

continued after finishing the antibiotic. Then I went to another doctor and

they put me on a double dose of Clindamycin intervaginal threapy. I felt

great while using the medicine, two days after stopping it, the discharge was

back with more irritation. At the following visit one week after the

medicine, the nurse practicioner said my cervix looked less red, and my

lactobacilli started to come back, but my culture came back with Gardnerella.

She offered me more Clindamycin, but I said NO WAY!! The last doctor that I

saw is a specialist in vaginitis and VV. He did a wet mount (looked under

the microscope) and said he saw Mobiluncus, this is a form of bacterial

vaginosis. Except that many of my symptoms don't match up to bacterial

vagnosis. For instance, I don't have an odor to my discharge and I have many

WBC's in my discharge which doesn't relate to BV. Also, BV is not suppose to

cause vulvar burning and puritis, I have the burning and irritation with

puritis. My Ph level at the last appointment was normal, with BV you have an

elevated Ph level. So none of this makes any sense to me. By the way, this

specialist who diagnosed the Mobiluncus wants me to go on IV antibiotics for

7 days. The cocktail is 1gram of Ampilicin and 80mg. of Gentamycin. I feel

he side effects of these drugs are too dangerous. My gut instinct feels that

since the antibiotics didn't work initially, why would they work now? This

is a very extreme treatment and I am hesitant to try it. I have not had sex

in over a year with my husband, so I don't know how I could have gotten a STD

infection. Although anything could be possible. It seems my flora is

definitely messed up from the antibiotics. Would like to try some more

natural remedies first. I have been in contact with someone who might know

how to treat this with more natural things like vitamins, and a more

naturopathic approach.

Please e-mail me and give me all of your story so we can compare symptoms,

etc. Thanks for all your help.

Warmly,

Eileen
