I think the prices are about the same. At least from what I¹ve come across

at Best Buy, etc. Actually, and I could be wrong on this, I think some of

the newer pocket PC models are a little bit more $. I¹ve never used one, so

I can¹t give any insight at all. A good site to check out for comparing

prices is http://www.pricescan.com. You can do a search on this site and it

will return something like the top ten lowest prices at various stores.

I would also suggest that you check out eBay for either type. You can get a

Sony Clie T-615c (hi-res color) unit for about $150. I have this model and

was thinking of getting another as a ³spare² should something happen to my

current one. :) The ³screen² is much bigger than most of the Palm units and

everything is much sharper but I haven¹t looked at the newest Palm unit,

the Tungsten. I also have a keyboard that folds up to almost the size of

the Clie so I can use it basically like a laptop computer. In addition to

this Clie having 16 MB of internal memory, I also have a 128 MB memory stick

to store data and other programs.

I would be lost without my PDA. It has over half of the contents of my

brain stored on it. (With a backup on my home computer AND onto a CD should

the computer fail!!)

What programs do I have? Here are some of them. There are a few others,

but these are the main ones.

* Action Names: A little bit better program than the datebook that comes on

the unit. Address book, datebook, etc. all in one. Syncs with Outlook on my

home computer. Once I get a better Mac at work with perhaps a USB port, it

will sinc with Entourage as well. (My PowerBook G3 is an olllllddd laptop

as far as connections go.)

* AutoMobile: Tracks all of the car stuff (mileage, etc.)

* BugMe!: Sort of like a post-it note program.

* Checklist: Neat little program that lets you check off items, etc.

* FemDays: Tracking all the ³girl² stuff.

* MSDict: A great dictionary program (especially the pro version)

* Palm Reader: I have all four Harry Potter books on the Clie to read again

if I am ever in a traffic jam (in rural North Dakota).

* PDACookbook: Neat program that syncs up with the desktop version on my

home computer. I can also import MasterCook Recipes.

* Pocket Quicken: I can balance my checkbook on the PDA and then sync this

with Quicken on my home computer.

* QuickSheet: Spreadsheet program that syncs with Microsoft Excel

* QuickWord: Awesome word processing program that syncs with Microsoft Word

* SplashShopper: Cool list program that compares prices, etc. Syncs with the

desktop.

* SplashID: I keep ALL of my passwords here. Syncs with the desktop.

* Stamps!: An application I programmed to keep track of all of my stamping

supplies.

* WWCalc: Well, for all of my WW stuff.

* And then a few games: Bejeweled, FreeCell, Hearts, Mem Coach, Monopoly,

P-Jongg, PocketBo and Yahdice

Once again, I had a thought I didn¹t let travel out my fingers. I meant to

finish the last sentence with, I think the newer pocket PC models are a

little bit more $ because of some of the additional features they might

have. (Whew! I got it out this time!!)

Even some of the newer Sony models (Palm OS) have so many new features.

Would I use an MP3 player? A digital camera? Okay, the camera thing would

be cool. But would I buy a brand new PDA and spend like $400 just to have a

digital camera built-in? Not if my current unit is in excellent condition.

I can get a digital camera ³stick² that works by sticking it into the memory

card slot for $149 if I really need one, which I don¹t. I already have a

great Olympus digital camera (plus two SLR ³Rebels² and an Olympus point &

shoot camera). I am a ³wanna be² camera nut who had too much money since

being laid off July 1. (Three months¹ severance plus I was also able to draw

unemployment AND found a job shortly after.)

Hmmm... I also tend to ramble.

I had so much trouble with my Palm Pilot and had virtually stopped using

it. I had one of the first models and the screen resolution/display was

awful.

Got the new Hewlett Packard PDA (virtually a palm sized PC) for under

$300. at Best Buy-it has an exceptionally bright display and Word and

Excel to boot. I love it.

Now all I need is a WW Journal and Food List for it.

I really like the MP3 feature of mine. That's why I got that one. I

carry my favorite CD and audible books on it. I can hook it up to my

stereo in the car or I can listen with headphones or through the

speaker.

But you can buy more memeory of course and add it.

Kim, I am very interested in this thread. I just purchased a Clie JP 320. (I

think) It is B & W but has loads of memory. I REALLY want a WW calculator,

journal etc that will Hot Sync to my desk top what do you have and where did you

get it? May I ask. I am also looking for soft ware I will like. I bought a

shopping program for grocery lists and really DISLIKE that it is useless. (The

Handango one). Do you like Bug Me? I hope to purchase the keyboard in a few

weeks that will make it even more wonderful. I am also planning on getting

Quicken soon. (Have to do things slowly).

Thanks

My Sony Clie T-615 has 16 MB internal memory. For the Palm m130, you could

get an SD (secure digital) memory card for additional removable memory. I

think the SD memory size runs from maybe 8 MB to .....? Maybe 256 MB or

more! It used to be that 128 MB was the largest size, but I think they are

now available in 256 MB, 512 MB and maybe even larger!

The cool thing is that there's a neat program called " PowerRun " that lets

you move certain programs to the memory card that you might not have been

able to install via a HotSync to the memory card. (But not the " core "

applications like the datebook, etc.)

I like the feel of the m130 in the hand.. nice and curvy. Ü

Hi !

Check out the " Serious-Weight-Watchers " Yahoo Group page... and then click

on the Files link on the left hand side of the page. Once there, click on

the folder " WWCalc " .. I've uploaded the latest version of WWCalc (3.0.6).

The zipped file includes the manual. You'll also want to download the 2002

Food Database that is in the WWCalc folder.

You can download the restaurant lists here:

http://akasha.freeshell.org/ww/pilot/wwfc.html

You'll have to download each restaurant info separately (use the list w/o

nutrition info selection). Then hotsync to load into the PDA. You'll be

able to view the restaurant info in WWCalc.

There's a FREE shopping list program called Handy Shopper - it is awesome!

Here's a link at Palmgear.com to download it (if you want to, that is):

http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=BCEA335B-00B4-4CA8-9CE

11C2D00CC3947 & prodID=1350

If the link above isn't all underlined, you can visit

http://www.palmgear.com and do a search for handyshopper. Ü

I have BugMe... I honestly don't use it too much, but when I have, I've

liked it!

PS. Sending you a private email too!

I just bought a Palm i705 from palm.com for $149.. I'm quite happy with

it. They have open box ones for $119 but I wanted the software that

comes with it though. :) I missed my IIIc after the battery died and a

replacement battery was $40.. So I decided to upgrade a bit instead. :)

I bought DH a new battery for the IIIC and -he's- upgrading from his

Palm V to my old IIIc. The i705 isn't color like my old IIIc but it had

every other feature I wanted, including 8 megs of memory and the

expansion slot.
