Guest guest
Kelsey doesn't refuse to watch tv but I use to have a small color tv in our master bathroom in the morning with the news on and after seeing Kelsey go into a seziure while looking at the tv screen a few times we moved the tv to another room. 99% of Kelsey's seizures occur within 15 minutes of her waking up. Guest guest
De... Since you mentioned that she will give the most attention to the ones with music...have you tried the baby einstien line? It is just videos with classical music and very entertaining visuals...they really keep the attention focused and each visual only lasts about 15 seconds before they move onto another things. I love them and the kids have watched them over and over and over...which I can stand because the music is very pleasant and the visuals are funny...just goofy toys, light objects, etc. Oh and it has puppets that come and go. Their current favorites are Baby Van Gogh and Baby Shakespeare. The Van Gogh deals with colors and is very visually stimulating...the Shakespeare is languaged based and has poetry read through out along with children singing the ABC's. Sev will watch these from beginning to end...a HUGE feat since he has a visual impairment. They are at Walmart for only $10, so it's not a huge investment to check it out. the girls love them, my 4 year old neice and nephew love them, my mom took them to her classroom (3rd grade special ed) and they refused to leave the room until it had finished. Maybe it'll help build her focus? Nan ----Original Message Follows---- Reply-To: ketogenic To: " 'ketogenic ' " <ketogenic > Subject: TV? Date: Mon, 28 May 2001 07:27:13 -0700 This question came to me last night and I just thought I'd ask a group who might have some insight. will not watch TV. Last night, we rented movies -- my husband got the girls the Aristocats. Typically, 's not interested -- she'll sit in the vicinity and do a puzzle or another activity. Last night, we were all sitting down watching and she refused to even turn toward the television. I remember when had her first seizure, I did a web search and saw a thread of a post somewhere about a child who wouldn't watch TV, who started after being put on seizure meds. At times, 's been better about it. . . but never really all that interested, unless there's lots of music. Anyway. . . we certainly have more pressing problems than worrying that our kids don't watch TV. . .and lots of parents have the opposite problem, I know. But, just wondered if anyone knew why this might be or what we could do about it. My other daughter gets such joy out of her videos (and actually learns a bit, too, I think, from Blues Clues, etc.) -- I guess I'd just love to see participate in this " normal " activity.--D _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Guest guest
Rose never watches TV. Not interested. Hallelujah! And, yes, I do think it has something to do with the seizures. She does love music though and could work the CD player at an early age even before the diet!
Guest guest
Hi all, thanks for the suggestion Nan, Blair will also not really focus on TV. Not that I want a video freak but I also think he could get something from Sesame Street etc. Blair has CVI and we have just recently begun to focus on this, his lack of interest has always been blamed on the vision thing. Guest guest
How old is ? Is she developmentally on track? Jake wouldn't watch any videos until he was at least 3 - then he would only watch one or two. No deviation! Now he's 5 1/2, but still 2 developmentally. He has about 8-9 videos that he'll watch....but ONLY those. He is just beginning to notice shows on TV...teletubbies, sesame, blues clues, barney....but it's taken a while, and he still will not watch a whole show. He seems to like the repetition and familiarity of a tape. I think much of it is developmental in his case. We started with Sing Yourself Silly, Sing Hoot & Howl (sesame) - and Barney in Concert. Those are his favorites. Might be worth trying one. The first two are on the shorter side...I think about 30 min. Guest guest
Barb, The more I read the more & Jake sound alike. has about 6 videos that he likes (out of about 50 that his 3 year old sis likes). He strives on the repetition. I just replaced Barney in Concert because it tore up. He also loves Toy Story (only Toy Story I, doesn't like Toy Story II). His all time favorites are his " song " movies. They are put out by a Christian company called Cedarmont. Very simple tapes - just kids singing in different settings. But he absolutely loves them. Guest guest
Kathy/Barb and Jake sound a lot like Rebekah. she loves to watch her videos. she started out wanting to watch 'kids singing' videos(Bible Action songs) and although she still loves this one has moved on to Barney videos(any) taped Comfy Couch shows; and her most favorite, all of the " Video Tales " videos. she's nott too interested in videos with a strict story line. It has to have some singing and variety in it. Since she loves the Veggie Tales(available in Canada at christian bookstores, Safeway, Superstores and Costco) we have been able to make the transition from watching them to listeniing to the same stories on casssette which is a lifesaver when travelling. Off this topic: I'm trying to prepare her for the diet start next month. She seems tjo have a recoccuring cold virus with a very 'rattley' cough and runny nose. She had a slight fever yesterday but that seems to be gone today. any advice as to a keto friendly approach to this? I used chewable Tylenol yesterday for the fever but need to start buying meds that she will be able to use long term. Guest guest
Laverna, Great news about starting the diet. Be sure to let us know how things go. We use Diabetic Tussin (cough suppressant and expectrent) and Generic Sudafed plus (major brand - tab form). Basically, when you become a keto mom, you become very familiar with calling manufactorers for the carb content in medicine. I don't trust ANYONE until I talk to the manufactorer (I work at a pharmacy and my best friends are pharmacists, but I go right behind them and re-read everything).
