Guest guest
Dear D, That is no small triumph !!! It is so nice to hear that your daughter was happy and smiling after 2 1/2 years. I look forward to the days whenGrant is on less drugs and smiling through the day. We have dropped in small doses and he is looking good. However, I have nothing to compare him to as he has been on meds since he was 5 months old. He is 3 1/2 now and hopefully he will have drugs reduced sometime in the near future. Your post made me smile, thank you! kim
Guest guest
Great stuff, DeEtte! It's amazing how thrilled we can be by those little things! Patti snack ideas/small triumph Okay -- looks like the consensus to our early morning seizure debate is to try a bedtime snack and possibly to slow down on the Lamictal wean (only have 3 drops to go anyway). I did, however, give her two macademia nuts last night at bedtime and it didn't seem to make any difference. So. . . what I'll probably do is take Faye's peanut butter cookies and give her 1 with " milk " in the afternoon and 1 with " milk " at bedtime. Ultimately, though, that's what I wanted to do to put a morning school snack in for Kindergarten. Any ideas for some small 50 calorie or so keto snacks I could do? I think I've seen ideas on this before -- need to go back through back posts. asked why I was thinking of dropping the ratio -- it's because of my blood sugar theory and I was wondering if her blood sugar was dropping at night and that's what we might be seeing. I'm hoping to drop to 3.7 within the next few weeks, regardless, because she's still very hungry. Am I on the right track here, or is my logic faulty? Now. . . for some unrelated news. . . even though we have this setback. . .I'm actually starting to see my daugther again. I haven't seen her off drugs for 2 1/2 years. I'm starting to see her real personality come through again -- the silly, laughing, smiling little girl who today wanted to dress up to go to the mall, complete with hair bows and pearls (haven't seen her interested in that in a LONG time). And, I was actually able to take her picture. I barely have any decent pictures from the past couple years because she's either been a zombie child or so hyper she couldn't even sit still that long. Today, I pulled out the camera and she posed for me. . .that's a picture I'll treasure for a long, long time. Just wanted to share a small triumph with a group that can appreciate it! Have a good day--D
Guest guest
D Not sure that your logic is faulty, but I was thinking when Jess has very obvious low blood sugar episodes last summer, neuro's and dietican's solution was to add calories, not drop ratio. Theory being that her body was on a growth spurt, or trying to be, and her liver didn't have the glucogen stores from being on the diet. Of course, she had been on the diet for over two years at that point so I don't know if the same reasoning would apply to your daughter. Wonderful news about the day you had, do treasure that picture! I remember when we first got Jess off the drugs, she was a transformed little girl " Person, DeEtte " wrote: > Okay -- looks like the consensus to our early morning seizure debate is to > try a bedtime snack and possibly to slow down on the Lamictal wean (only > have 3 drops to go anyway). Guest guest
De.... Thisis such exciting news! I'd love to see that pic...did she have the pearls and all on? If I opened a folder for pics at the yahoogroups site would anyone be interested in posting pics of their ketokid there? I'd love to be able to put faces with all the names. Let me know and I'll open one up. It's very easy to upload pics. Guest guest
It's a deal. . .when I get it, we'll do it. Yes, she had a really cute dress on, a HUGE red hair bow that she picked out (and actually matched the dress!) and dress-up pearls. She and her sister received a lot of compliments at the mall. . .and just kept saying " thank you " to everyone! I was thinking last night that it would have been compelling to show her school picture this year side-by-side with this one. Her eyes were barely open -- she'd been up with seizures and I'd given her a Clonapan the night before. That comparison alone should compel people to start the diet and get as many drugs out of their system as possible. But, I never brought myself to order that picture. . .it was so awful that I only let myself look at it once. The girls had their picture taken together that day, too, and , who was only 3, was essentially holding her big sister up. . . we've come a long way! We're heading on vacation tomorrow (say prayers and send good thoughts for an " uneventful trip " ). . .when we get back, I'll get the film developed. Gee. . .it would be fantastic to see pictures of all our kids (and their parents and siblings!)!!!--D Re: snack ideas/small triumph De.... Thisis such exciting news! Guest guest
D, Hope the snack works. Thanks for sharing the photo story. It so wonderful to see our real children emerging from the drug-haze! Tried the mac nuts at midnight...that didn't help us either. Wish I could offer something that worked! > > Ultimately, though, that's what I wanted to do to put a morning school snack > in for Kindergarten. You could also do a keto cookie but it contains aspartame in the sugar free jello - some don't like to do that. I also used to use jello alot...because it's bulky, and it looks like alot of food for a snack, and the other kids can have it too. I would usually do jello, cheese, and oil or something like that. It travels well too. > > asked why I was thinking of dropping the ratio -- it's because of > my blood sugar theory and I was wondering if her blood sugar was dropping at > night and that's what we might be seeing. Not sure how dropping the ratio would help blood sugar....but for what it's worth, I've dropped Jake's ratio from 3.5:1 to 3.1:1 over the past few months...with no change in morning seizures. I too wonder about the blood sugar....but there are many mornings that he doesn't seize....so I would think it would be a more consistent thing. He eats his last meal between 6:15/6:30 and goes to bed at 7pm. I've waited as long as 8:30-9 before giving him breakfast with no issue. Normally he eats breakfast at 7:45 or so. Wish I could help more...but just sharing our experience. We've also tried homeopathic remedies and they haven't helped. 98% of Jake's seizures are between 4-6am....he either wakes for the day at that time, or just seizes and goes back to sleep. It's been about a year now. I'm grateful that they are all in his sleep and he's safe in bed....but it's frustrating. You can't help but feel that SOMETHING is causing it, same time, all the time.
