Guest guest
Has anyone experienced muscle cramping in their arms and legs while on an adequate amount of Synthroid and when their blood tests indicate their calcium levels are normal? I don't supplement my Synthroid with calcium, and I'm wondering if these small, perpetual cramps, particularly in my calves and forearms, might be related in some way. My endo has recently upped my Synthroid dosage .25mg, but says the need for that small adjustment would not account for any muscle discomfort I'm experiencing. Any thoughts? Amy L. Guest guest
I have them in my feet, more of a muscle weakness in my hands but my calcium is a little low. What did your Doctor think might be the cause???? Guest guest
Amy, There is an easy way to find out if calcium will help. Take a small amount of tums or buy a small package of chocolate chews Viactive and see if you get some relief. You will know rather quickly. If you do then you need to discuss it further with your doctor.Even with normal calicum levels there are lots of women in this world that take supplimental calcium to protect their bones. Guest guest
Jane, I can tell my calcium levels 'feel' ok sometimes, and definitely feel those familiar symptoms of a drop at other times....like a transient problem. I have a feeling that if I had my Calcium tested 7 days in a row, I'd have 7 different test results. In fact, once I had a lab result with 2 calcium tests - one serum test, and one included in a metabolic panel. One was 8.2 and the other was 8.5. The doctor said that it's not uncommon (settling, etc.) Funny you feel it come and go, too. Guest guest
Amy, My last blood test on the calcium came back normal but about two weeks latter I also got the same cramping, so I did the little tap tests on my face to see if I twitched and sure enough I was. I assume my calcium levels may go up and down depending on what I eat etc. So I popped calcium for a week/or until the ticks go away and no more cramping. I get that cramping like once a month. Sort of like a period, even though I had a hysterectomy, so it's not from a period. So I'm wondering if once a month my calcium drops???? Guest guest
Hi Sandy, I'm beginning to think there is a cycle we or maybe just I am on that certain times I use much more calcium then other times (reason for periodically low calcium) It's all I can think of.
