I didn't go by the menus in the book either, but here is a VERY helpful web site that lists what to eat and what to avoid: http://www.dieting-review.com/forums/viewforum It helped me a lot when I was shopping and meal planning. Guest guest
It's amazing what gets sold to us as "food", isn't it? I just want to grab people and shake them! new here About the folks feeling bad in the morning--- i feel that way too if i donteat at the 'scheduled' time-- i.e, the time that ive gotten used to eatingin the morning. These feelings were familiar because i know im hypoglycemic.however, as long as i eat at around the same times, i feel pretty good. asfar as eggs in the morning-- add cheese and maybe a few veggies, it stickswith you longer. Im in P2 right now, and ive added a small bowl of Kashicereal to that, and its a pretty hearty breakfast. My biggest problem so faris that im often thirsty, and not to be gross--- but im peeing *alot*. Ihavent lost as big as many, but thats ok. 9.5 pounds is a big accomplishmentfor me, i normally *gain* on a diet, or only lose 2 or 3 pounds. i figuremaybe if i was stricter with what im eating i might have lost a little more, but then i wouldnt have been happy, because i wouldnt have been'comfortable' with what i was eating. this way im happy, and im stilllosing, albeit slowly. it should stay off, im hoping. im just notrelinquishing some of my little comforts-- diet rite soda, fruit2o water(splenda flavored, of course), and sugar free fudge pops. and i guess someof my cheese hasnt always been the low-fat variety, but at least im noteating velveeta anymore. i have confidence that even though it might beslow, itll keep coming off. has anyone else noticed since starting thisdiet how much you notice about food thats advertised on TV and how unhealthyit is? ive been noticing the trend now that im more concious about what imeating..... personally, potatoes were my big problem. that, and bread andpasta, i suppose. anybody know of a SBD friendly alternative to alfredo? itsmy favorite..... --"Culture is the curse of the thinking class." --RushReminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. The South Beach Diet teaches you to rely on the right carbs and the right fats-the good ones-and enables you to live quite happily without the bad carbs and bad fats. Guest guest
Jacqui, Don't know about the blurry vision. But the headaches, etc are fairly common. You have to stay ahead and be proactive. Don't let yourself get hungry. Try eating smaller meals/snacks more often - can you do that? If you're hungry, eat. Even if it's just a piece of turkey or some nuts (although these are limited). Maybe a boiled egg? Try eating more protein and drinking lots of water. Part of the reason of the strictness of Ph 1 is the "detox" aspect. Amazingly, you can lose many of your cravings as you rid your body of junk. That is helpful in preventing cheating down the road. I had a hard time with Ph 1 but was able to slog through and am now glad I did. Hang on - you can do it! new here Hi,My name is Jacqui and I am new to this diet and to this group. I started phase 1 on Monday. I am having a hard time because I don't get to eat lunch until about 2 hours later than I am hungry for it. (I started a new job a few weeks ago and my lunch is now that much later than it used to be for the past 5 years.) The snacks aren't cutting it. When i am ready to eat, I am in the school cafeteria for a period of lunch duty, where for the past few weeks I have been buying a big soft pretzel every day, but for the past few days I have not. It has taken a lot of willpower not to buy that pretzel for the past 2 days but I haven't done it. The first day I bought a tuna sandwich, intending to throw out the bun. but I was so hungry and the bun made me feel better. I thought that was't so bad, it was just one little bun, and I did well for the rest of the day.Yesterday, which was my second day, I ate a much better breakfast, and I was full for a while. I had my snack when I was hungry, but again it wasn't enough. I did not give in and get anything at the school cafeteria, but I went home from work with a headache. Then I ate every allowed snack in sight!! At dinnertime I was not hungry. Then I had a nice bowl of ice cream for dessert because I wanted it and I felt like I had suffered enough. I cheated already. (Today, day 3, I woke up and my left eye is blurry. What is going on? Is it because I cheated and ate ice cream last night? Is it because I haven't had any bread for 2 days? Is it completely unrelated? Has anybody else had a change in vision during phase 1?I was wondering what would happen to my body if I skipped phase 1 and started right on phase 2. I don't care about the larger weight loss in the first 2 weeks. I just know that if I keep going the way I have gone the past 2 days, I am not going to be able to keep this up. At least on phase 2 I can pack a nice egg salad sandwich, tuna sandwich, or turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread to eat during my lunch duty. I am not usually this negative, but I guess the headache that I brought home from work yesterday has really affected me. HELP!!Jacqui Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Guest guest
Jacqui-- Most likely the headache is part of the detoxing (getting the cravings for carbs out of your system). Many get headaches for part of the first week. By the second week of Phase I, the cravings will be gone. It sounds as though you really need to stick out Phase I since you're desiring to " eat everything in sight " . Remember to eat until you are satisfied, but not stuffed and try to keep it " legal " . We've all been there and done it. You CAN, too! Try drinking a glass big glass of water with those snacks and meals...it might help you through this. I can't imagine what the vision this is though...IF it doesn't go away. Please call your doctor. Have a great day on the Beach! Guest guest
Hi all! Thanks Mel for letting me join. Did you know that I was talking about you in my request to join? I'll introduce myself. I'm . I live in Indiana. I just went to my first TOPS meeting Tuesday. I haven't joined yet, but will be next week. I didn't get to the meeting in time to weigh in at the beginning. But did weigh as it was closing. I don't know what else to say. If you have any questions I'm not as shy as I used to be so ask away.
