Guest guest
Is brown sugar Okay? Do I need to buy special flour, for example, not enriched? Thanks, Mark
Guest guest
> Is brown sugar Okay? Maybe. Some versions of the diet say to exclude all molasses while on the LID. Several list members (Ian and Jill in particular) have done much research into it and cannot come with any reason why it should be excluded. OTOH, NIH, has apparently changed their recommendation from " no molasses " to " no sulfured molasses " , so perhaps that's a more acceptable restriction. I would guess that the molasses added to sugar to make it brown is NOT sulfured, but I don't know for sure, so I would avoid it. > Do I need to buy special flour, for example, not enriched? Even though the enrichment generally doesn't include iodine, it's always a possibility. Additionally, some bleached flours may have iodates. SO .... the answer is yes. Unbleached, unenriched, whole wheat (or whole grain) flour is the way to go. > Are the following okay; > Cinnamon > Mustard seed > Dry mustard > Allspice > Cloves To the best of my knowledge all spices are fine on the LID. - NYC (TT 2/99 dx pap/foll; RAI 100 mCi 3/99 & 4/00; current TSH ~.06 on .225 levothyroxine)
Guest guest
Brown sugar is questionable due to molasses... but flour - unbleached is fine.. I've personally checked with King Arthur flours and theirs has no iodates in it, its unbleached, unbromated, and there was a repost about betty crocker also not adding iodates. hope this helps barb ------------**********------------------ >Date: Tue, 18 Apr 2000 21:50:24 -0400 >From: <tayj@n...> >I e-mailed General Mills about flour/iodine and this is their reply: > >Thank you for visiting the Betty Crocker Web Site, I hope you enjoy it as >much as I do. > >Potassium Iodate is not added to our flour.
