I have the same reaction to photos of

myself that you do . I don’t know how to explain it though. I too

would love to know if anyone has any ideas on this. Thanks

Picture or Mirror?

Im not sure If i have asked this question before but I

will ask again

as I think self-esteem is a really big part of IE.

The thing is that I look in the mirror and for the most part I feel ok.

If I look too long however I do seem to look fatter and fatter for

some reason.

My question is this. I know it is said that the camera adds 10lbs but

has anyone had the feeling that they really do look a lot bigger in

pictures then they actually are?

If the camera adds 10 lbs then it must add it all over, or I am a lot

heavier then I think I am.

I dont know what to believe. Every time I see a full body picture of

myself i am tempted to run back to a diet and yet I look int he mirror

and think I look ok? What sup with this?

It can ruien my whole day worse then stepping on the scale.

I agree. I hate to see pictures of myself. I appear to be much bigger in them than what I think I am. I can barely look at them.

I've had the same experience as you...and I hate to say it but I think

the pictures are how we really are... have you looked at the other

people in the pictures... to me they look the same as when I see them

in real life...

Looking in the mirror is deceptive... you connect with that person and

I think some of your own perceptions of yourself affect what we see...

the same way an anorexic looks in the mirror and sees a fat person.

What about reflections in glass? That's what gets me every time! I can walking down the street feeling pretty good about myself and catch my reflection in a store window and think "ugh! I look awful!" Mirrors don't get to me near like those reflections. : (

This thread is really funny to me...because my sister and I have been having this conversation lately. When I see pictures of myself, I look like a "normal" person. In the last couple of months I've had my picture taken at work for a couple of different reasons. I've sent them to my sister and she concurs--I look normal. So, my "view" is skewed the other way, when I look in the mirror I look huge.

Or mirrors in stores? I hate to catch a glimpse of myself walking by one of those. The first thing I notice is my huge belly. :-(

Mirrors- you can look at your whole image, see the light and how shadows are cast... it is more 3-d- for me, pictures however, I feel I look bigger- you just get flattened the wrong way...

Though now in both, I see a difference, so I don't mind how I look now.

I wonder about this that LJ put. When i see pictures of my aunt and

our hoem stay student they look different too. Some people look the

same but defintly less dimensional. If we look all flat then we would

look bigger. Seems to depend in the camera too.
