Guest guest
Hi everyone. I'm April. I'm from So. California. I have been following the IE lifestyle for a little over a week now. I am loving it. I feel like I've quit an extra job. I used to spend so much time worrying about food and weight. Now I just eat when I'm hungry. What a concept. A little background on me....I spent most of my life overweight. I've always had food issues. A few years ago I went on a strict vegan diet. I lost 40 pounds. I was able to do it for 3 years before I finally broke down and had massive amounts of cheese. I put about 10 pounds on. I decided to try Weight Watchers. I lost 20 pounds in 4 months and have kept it off for a year. The only problem was that I was obsessed with food. I planned my life around food. I was trying to gain control of my food issues when I read McPhee's story in People magazine. She mentioned Intuitive Eating, I did some research and here I am. I ordered Intuitive Eating by Tribole last week and am waiting for it to arrive. I feel that it can only help what I've accomplished so far. I'm amazed at how fast my cravings have diminished. When I want a cookie, I eat it. period. I have had cake, cookies, ice cream, etc., but I just eat a little bit and am satisfied. I don't feel guilty about it. I feel healthy and in control of my life for the first time ever. It's spilled over into all facets of my life. I just feel more relaxed about everything. I really feel that I will be able to maintain this relationship with food forever. I am glad to be a part of this group. I love reading everyone else's experiences. > > > > Welcome to more new members! Guest guest
Thanks, Jen . My name is Tam and I just joined (or, rather, rejoined, I think...) I've been interested in IE for a while but I haven't been able to succeed with it yet. Twenty years of yo-yo dieting and binges is hard to manage, especially when you have your mother supporting it . For years, eating has been all about losing weight with me but now I've gotten to a point where I am at a weight I can live with, so I want to focus on bettering my relationship with food. This is a great time for me to tackle this because I've started a new phase of my life both professionally (started my PhD), geographically (living in a new place) and mentally. I did try IE last year but wasn't able to get out of the terror that allowing myself to eat what I wanted would make me gain weight (and indeed, I stocked my house with foods I love for the first time outside of a binge and ate those foods instead of healthy (non-diet) foods). I've come to realize it's not about eating whatever you want but about eating what your body craves. So even though I stopped IE, I started listening more to what my body was telling me. And it was telling me to eat no meat so I moved to being a vegetarian, which I am very happy with. However, a few months ago, I read about raw eating (basically, a vegan diet eating uncooked foods like veggies, fruit, nuts and seeds, and sprouted beans and grains) and I tried that (for health reasons, not for weight loss) and I found myself getting stuck in my old habits ( " being good " with my food for a period of a week or two, then " breaking " the " diet " and binging) and I figured even though I liked raw eating in general, it was leading me to bad habits because of its restrictiveness and wasn't worth the price I would pay for unhealthy habits. So now I am going to concentrate on eating a vegetarian diet, but eating what my body craves (which is lots of veggies, fruits, some grains, and a bit of yogurt ) and paying attention to fullness. Sorry for the long story! Tam > > Just wanted to say a quick " WELCOME! " to all of our most recent > members! Guest guest
I agree. Sometimes my body is telling me to eat salads and sometimes it says to eat meat. Usually when I'm really hungry, I do not want sweets first. Maybe after I eat the proteins, fruits, veggies and carbs, I do want a small sweet then. Not very often do I reach for sweets when I am really hungry. But it is listening to what your body really wants and sometimes the Lord gives me ideas of what to eat. > > > > Just wanted to say a quick " WELCOME! " to all of our most recent > > members!
