Great stuff, April! Congrats on the Kayaking! My sister loves to do that... But, she's the more adventurous one ... she's done the bungee-jump thing at Canada's Wonderland (in Toronto), she's gone skydiving, she's walked right past real live Grizzly bears... Oh! And been nose-to-nose with a moose! (that's a super funny story, btw!)

Anyhoo... Your son sounds really cute. Love the Bob-the-Builder story! ;o)

One question... No condemnation, here, so please don't take it that way (i know email doesn't come across right some times...) ... I notice in your food journals that you usually don't wait for a "0" (empty) to start eating.... how come? Just curious ... not saying it's "bad" or something. :-?

Thanks for sharing your blog entries! :o)

Jenn (the obsessed blogger....) -- ps-> I think I'm gonna have to add your blog to my Bloglines subscription. ;o)

Okay, April. Interesting! Thanks so much for posting about that, especially your definitions of the hunger levels... I'm thinking that I should do that, too.... See what *my* hunger numbers mean to *me*. :o)

I think that it's really wise, what you're doing. Taking it slow, and not letting it become a "rule".... That's smart. Kudos! :o)

I'd be interested to read what your hunger scale looks like. Personally, I think everyone has their own hunger scale depending on their own eating issues and health status. You've really challenged me to wait for a 0, and right now it's almost noon, and I'm at about a 2, maybe 1.5, which is further than I've gone towards a 0 in a long time. It has really helped, psychologically, to include a -1, and know that for ME, there's a point where I'm TOO hungry and it's not healthy physically or emotionally for me to wait quite that long. That kind of hunger can also trigger a binge for me. Thanks for asking that question!

April-

I like how you ended your post....that you are probably waiting until 0 more than you give yourself credit for. I am like you....can't wait until 0 unless I am by myself and do not have to function as a human. Most of the time I get a headache and am very irritablewhich makes me snap at my children and husband. Then I am more likely to eat standing up and eat in a hurry. The only times I have been able to wait until I am good and hungry is after exercise or in the morning.

I don't always get headaches and get shacky so I am wondering if it is tied to what I am eating(need more protien at meals maybe). I usually have oatmeal for breakfast. Some mornings I am hungry 2 hours later and other times it will be 4 so I am not so sure what causes the headaches. I bet I could track my food intake and figure this out but maybe later! I have too much internal struggles to work out first! ha!

I did learn a whole lot from reading Thin Within but had to give my 0 a new definition and if I chose to eat when I was at 3 then I learned not to consider it " breaking a rule " because we all know what that causes!!

I'm glad you feel as though I've challenged you, but I hope you don't feel that I"ve in any way "pushed" you to wait for "0", and that you don't feel it's bad to have been going at things like you have. Honestly, I truly believe that you need to do what you need to do... only you know your history with food, and whatever I say is only from my experiences & beliefs. I've never had a problem with binges, so I can't speak on that. :-?

When I've figured out how to describe my hunger numbers, I'll let ya know. (I'm dealing with some other pretty extreme issues today, so I just don't want to think on anything else... I need to focus on God. :-?)

If you've read THIN WITHIN, Kate, then you know that they say there is "no condemnation", and that we're to put away the "club of condemnation" -- to not beat ourselves up if we don't follow TW exactly. If we try to be "perfect", then we're 'dieting', right? We're falling back into the legalisms.

It's a learning process, this intuitive eating...

I read somewhere, the other day, a really good way of looking at it: Babies don't come out of the womb ready to walk ... it takes them stages to learn ... first they can't do anything ... then they learn to creep, then crawl, then toddle, then walk ....

It's the same with relearning how to eat intuitively, I think. First we learn about what we *should* be doing (waiting for 0, eating to satisfied), then we stumble -- the practices are unfamiliar, so it takes a while to get the hang of things -- then we start to really get the hang of things...

Sheesh! You guys are real therapy for me! All of this stuff is *new* to me ... it's just coming to me as I'm writing it out! LOL... I'm gonna have to go a little easier on myself from here on out, after having practically "preached" to all of you! LOLOL...

Thank you! :o)

I appreciate a challenge. Not to say I will be comfortable embracing this challenge as a life change yet (although that is ultimately my goal), but because of my history of binge eating, I know that easing into changes is the ONLY way something will take root as a lasting change.

I hope your situation is resolved soon. Prayers and hugs,

April

I totally hear ya! LOL In my case, I need fully functional ability to concentrate because I must study and do my best as I am all my son has to provide and support. When I'm going through multiple hunger headaches in a day, I feel ill and non-productive and weight loss isn't worth that price to me.

Yea I read it but my black and white thinking gets me in trouble

because I take suggestions and make them into rules.....so I wasn't

implying that TW had a rule I was breaking but my mind was turning

these suggestions into rules! Just something else I have to be aware

of and change:)
