Hi ,

I have hypoglycemia and am hungry all the time too. I usually eat about every 2 - 3 hours. I had a 3 hour glucose tolerance test done a few months ago and my blood sugar level was extremely low by the 3rd hour. You have to fast all night, drink a really sugary orange drink and get blood drawn every hour after that. I'm seeing a really great endocrinologist and she's helped a lot. I am taking glucophage to prevent getting diabetes. When I went to see her initially, one of my symptoms was also being tired all the time. She ordered a sleep study and I found out that I also have sleep apnea. Now that I'm using a CPAP machine at night, I'm feeling a lot better and have more energy. I'm also anemic and am supposed to take iron but I'm taking so many different meds and vitamins that it really upsets my stomach. If I were taking that

regularly like I'm supposed to, I would have even more energy!

Long story short, if you find out that you are hypoglycemic, then find a really good endocrinologist. Also ask your Doc about having a sleep study done.

Good luck!

The body tries to tell us

Over the last month I had not been feeling very well. Ravenously hungry, craving sweets, so so tired all the time. I couldnt get out of bed and wouldn't if it were nto for my little tot.Going to bed hours earlier then usual and beyond irritable which i would then soothe with chocolate chips.I thought I might be depressed but I didnt feel right about taking an antidepressant. Not that there is anything wrong with them I just got a feeling it was not for me. I dreampt about eating hard candies and while spacing out one evening, (this was happenig a lot too) I got a thought in my head, like someone was whispering to me, that i needed to change my diet.I grumbled to myself that i did not want to change my diet and i was going to make it work if i had to push a square peg into a round whole. Now when i say "diet" i do not mean "on a diet" i mean just the way I had been eating. When i first started IE a few years

ago we were told to watch our hunger and see how often it came, for how much and what etc.I found at that time i was craving jars of baby food, turkey and those bags of frsh vegitable cut up for stirfry, brocoli, carrots, pod peas and what not.I wanted to eat about every 2-2.5 hours. The whisper in my head told me to do this again even though i didnt want to because i would have to stop to eat too many times during the day.Anyway to make a short story long, i went to the doctors and she believes i have hypoglycemia. I will be tested but she says even if i do not that i need to listen to my body because i obviously have sugar sensitivity and a sensitivity to reactive hypoglycemia.Your certainly will tell you , even if it has to make you feel icky to get your attention

Well, now you ladies have me curious. Could just the anemia cause constant fatigue? I'm alllllways tired. But, I don't seem to *need* food every 2-3 hours. I'm okay to go for the afternoon, so long as I drink water or something. I used to have anemia. Probably still do. Just haven't had that checked in several years. I don't take iron right now (stopped taking my multivitamin 'cause it's got a dye in it that I"m sensitive to).

Hi ,

Could you tell me what the endocrinologist does?

Have you seen a dietician or nutrisionist?

How do you fit this into IE or do you just find it natural because

you have to eat and pay attention?

Oh and do you wait for hunger or is it too late by then? I find i

get the shakes if i don't pre-empt hunger.

thanks

Hey Jenn,

I'm pretty sure just anemia could cause constant fatigue. Have you had your thyroid checked and blood work done in a while? You may want to do that. Iron is really hard on the stomach. There is one that I have called "Gentle Iron" (25 mg) made by Solgar. I got it at Mother's Market (a healthy market). It's much better than the normal stuff you buy. I think if I weren't on Glucophage, the Gentle Iron would be fine. The Gluc causes a lot of stomach upset. I can't even take the recommended dose of 2000 mg a day. I can only stomach 1000 mg.

If you're always tired, I'd definitely go get it checked out.

Hi ,

An endocrinologist is a specialist dealing with diabetes, thyroid disorders, pituitary, etc. When you are always tired, it could be a number of things. You could have hypothyroidism, or anemia, or a sleep disorder, among many other things. If your doctor didn't order blood work, you should request to have your thyroid checked and also do a glucose tolerance test. Finding a good endocrinologist is key if you find out that you have hypoglycemia because it could lead to diabetes when you get older. That's why I'm on glucophage. My endocrinologist wants me to see a nutritionist but I haven't had the money to do that. I'm hoping my new insurance will cover that when we get it in a couple of months. Then I will try and work with Tribole.

My husband gets the shakes if he eats something sugary in the morning. By lunch he's shaking and so hungry that he over-eats. You should note what you ate before you start getting the shakes. If you tend to eat sweet things in the morning, maybe watch the sugar in the a.m. But, you should probably see a nutritionist eventually. I would find out what's going on first so the nutritionist knows what's going on.

Where do you live?

I've not had any of those tests in a while, so yeah, I'll probably make an appointment with my doctor for next week sometime. Thanks, . :o)
