Guest guest
- Hi 'me again', I'm so sorry that you are going through this. After what we all as individuals have been through it's easy to see how you could worry. Of course the most difficult part is the 'not knowing' but to feel concerned about yourself is totally normal and acceptable. Have you asked your endo if she will do a FNA? Then you wouldn't have to wait. In the meanwhile I suggest taking good care of yourself, think very positive good thoughts, get outside and marvel at the little things and coming to the group for all of the support you need. Just having them all here has made these past few weeks more bareable for me. I thank God and the stars for them every night and I will now add you to that list. Let us know how you are doing. AND you won't feel foolish if all of the worrying is for naught. You can just do a " Snoopy happiness dance " and we'll dance with you. Carol PS Thanks Nina for the book idea! What a wonderful thought! -- In Thyca@y..., mdmt1@e... wrote: > Hi, Me again, > > For thsoe of you that have dealt with thyca reccurence..Did you " KNOW " > that you were dealing with it before you had a scan to " PROVE " it??? > > I for one have myself convinced that I have neck mets. Guest guest
Hi Me again Michele, Me again here-- --- mdmt1@e... wrote: >For thsoe of you that have dealt with thyca reccurence..Did you " KNOW " that you were dealing with it before you had a scan to " PROVE " it??? Not only did I not KNOW that the ThyCa was back, I almost said 'no' to tx in 1982 AFTER the scan showed it in my neck & chest! I was feeling great, working 50-60 hr weeks and didn't want to believe it. >I for one have myself convinced that I have neck mets. I have been having the following symptoms since the beginning of the year: " popping " sounds, throat pain, trouble swallowing, ear pain, my neck feels swollen to me but never to the docs who check it, etc etc, etc. Go with your gut. Instinct is usually a good thing. If nothing shows up, you can breathe a sigh of relief, but nothing to feel 'foolish' about. The old adage, 'better safe than sorry' applies here, especially since you have confirmation from the ENT re: the nodule. It must feel awful, wondering whether to wait for the scan, have surgery while hypo and all. I will be thinking of you. >My gut just really tells me I still have thyca. Did anyone else go through this? I am really driving myself nuts. Did any of you ever worry for nothing? YES! AFTER treatment in 1982, until I had about four clean scans, every pain in the neck or clavicle area made me think it was back. >Maybe this is just my way of dealing with thyca. I don't know. Guest guest
Michele, If you are worried you should address it. I always knew when there was recurrance both in my neck and with the lung mets. My doctors listened to me and even noted in my records " this patient says she knows when there is activity and I tend to believe her. " Thank goodness because my lung mets was caught months before I was due for a checkup just because I suspected activity and had a chest x-ray. You would rather be wrong than right and you have nothing to lose by addressing your fears....except good health. Guest guest
Michele, Please be sure they do a Tg test on you while hypo.. my recurrence didn't show up on scan but my Tg elevated while hypo. That is how I knew I had a recurrence. Guest guest
Hi Michele, I am going through the same thing right now, doctors ignoring my neck. I have let them ignore it for about a year now but this time I am going to try to insist that I want to know what it is. I too have enlarged nodes on the side of my neck, I had one doctor tell me " I just can't go taking out everybodies enlarged lymph nodes. " I had another doctor tell me " I don't think it's cancer, so leave me alone. " Well needless to say I have left him alone, I cancelled my three month appointment and refuse to go back to him, I also told the endo that referred me to him the story. Anyway, I am sure this is all because this is " the best cancer to have " . It is sad that they give you more respect if you come in with strepp throat or pink eye than thyroid cancer. And with a background of cancerous nodes you would think they would consider that. Anyway, maybe it is time to take a stand and say " If you can't find out what the enlarged nodes are maybe you should refer me to someone that can. Guest guest
Hi. I know when things are happening with my body too. Part of the problem I'm having with my doc is that she is dismissive with " real " physical symptoms, she would consider my gut feelings hypochondria. I have learned that I should ALWAYS trust my intuition, it never caused me to be hurt. I've just found a way to tellmy doc things without saying I " just know it's there " . Good luck, and treust yourself. Peace, Love and all that Hippie Stuff! Guest guest
I went to see Dr. Ain a couple of weeks ago. He spent a lot of time showing me how to check my own neck and discussing with me the importance of checking it myself regularly. He said that we thycan's need to be very familiar with our own necks so that we will be aware of changes. This definitely leads me to believe that if you discover a " change " in your own neck, it needs to be investigated. If it isn't cancer, that is certainly good news, but if it does turn out to be a recurrence, you may catch it in time to treat it easily! I don't think you should feel in any way feel foolish, even if it is nothing, which I fervently hope it will be!
