Guest guest
Kathy, I take my synthroid when I roll over in the morning (around 5:30 am). I take it then so I can take my supplements (calcium) with meals at lunch, supper, then a bedtime multi. Sandy TT/RAI Oct. 2000, pap question When is the best time to take thyroid replacement med??? My first endocrinologist told me to take in the morning before breakfast(1 hour before), my second endocrinologist told me to take the levoxyl 125 at bedtime. Lets take a pole and see when the most popular time is. Could there be a difference in how I feel depending on the time I take it? Guest guest
My Endo told me to take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and not to eat for one hour. Also wait to take any vitamins for 3 -4 hours. When I deviate from this I feel " crappy " so I would say this works for me. Guest guest
I was initially diagnosed in 1975 and had recurrence in 1998. Since it is a slow growing cancer, my doctor said I should be good for another 20 years. I know that isn't the answer you wanted. I found that once I accepted the fact I had thyroid cancer, it was like freckles - something I have. Can't do anything about it, just keep an eye on it. :} Take care Theresa --- steve tracy wrote: > Do Thyroid cancer patients ever NOT have recurrance > or is it almost > inevitable? Kathi, I was dx in 1989. I had one RAI treatment following my tt and have had all clean scans for the past 11 years. While thyca, like any other cancer, *can* recur at any time, recurrence is not inevitable. Participation on our list is slightly skewed, I think, from the " normal " thyca population. Some people only participate on the list when they're experiencing problems -- recurrences, treatment dilemmas, odd symptoms, etc. Folks who are in remission and feeling fine sometimes leave the list or don't participate as actively as those who have current issues to discuss. Hope this helps, ellen -- mailto:ellen@...
Guest guest
Kathi, I had surgery for thyroid cancer in 1986 and have been ok ever since. I agree with the others who have responded -- this list probably doesn't represent the broad spectrum of those who have had surgery many years ago. After a decade or so, I know that thyca has not been on my mind like it was in the years immediately following my surgery. Although you'll always have to deal with having checkups, time does help. For me, I recently moved and have issues with my treatment, but it has been so long for me that I no longer have the same fears that I did 15 years ago. > Do Thyroid cancer patients ever NOT have recurrance or is it almost > inevitable? If nothing else, for my own peace of mind. I know that my dr. treats many patients other than thyca patients, and what may be a normal TSH for someone else, would be way too high for me...so I like to keep the numbers in check. TT 7/97, 1 cm pap w/ lymph node mets, 105 mci RAI 9/97, recurrance 2/99, 2.5 cm nodule w/ mets to lymph nodes, modified radical neck dissection, clean scan in 3/99 and 1/00.
