Guest guest
Christy: I met with my NEW endo recently to discuss my TSH level. I am at 2.0 (former doc felt this was fine) and have become educated that this is too high. I told her that I thought I should be at .1, she agreed but cautioned that going below .1 can bring on other health issues (bone mass loss/osteoprosis and more). She is recommending a target range of .1 to .3 TSH and has adjusted my meds higher to help me get into this range. I've seen other reply posts to you that recommend LOWER than .1 and I'm not sure this would be good. Can anyone else out there in Thycaland verify my above comments as correct? Guest guest
Hi Gwynne, It seems that doctors have their own take on how we should feel! The bottom line is,if you don't feel well between .1-.3 then you need to be lower than .1. Most people on this list have more issues above .1 than below it. There have been a number of postings by the doctors on osteoporosis. Most recently I believe the data showed that thyroid medication does not bring on osteoporosis. I have been in suppression below .1 for 34 years and do not have osteoporosis. Good monitoring of the patient throughout their life can help prevent some of the " other " things the doctor suggested to you. It is unimaginable that a doctor treating a thyca patient would keep that person at 2.0. and think it was okay! Tell the truth....did you feel horrible? Guest guest
Dear Gwynne: Doctors have different opinions as to whether your TSH should be 0.3 or less than 0.1. Sometimes, their decision is based on the needs of the individual patient. I have had three endos over the past several years and they all suggested I stay at 0.3 On the other hand, my internist, who is quite knowledgeable about thyca, wants me at 0.1 Since I get heart arrhythmias at 0.1, even with medication, it's a no-brainer for me to be at 0.3. I also have osteoporosis, so this is another reason why for me full suppression may not be a good idea. What is best for you has to be decided by you and your physician.
