I've been thinking the same thing lately. But my problem is that I've lost

almost all of my weight on my own and would feel very self conscious about

going into a WW meeting with only 8 pounds to lose. I would just feel kinda

stupid. But, I also feel like I need the accountability. I've really been

slipping off the deep end since before Thanksgiving and went from 112 to 123

in just a couple of months. I'm 5'1 " with a very small frame. Anyway,

congrats on putting your reservations aside and going to the meeting.

Thanks for the encouragement. I looked up a meeting near home and they have

one tomorrow morning. I just need to suck it up and go. I also am very shy

and not much of a people person so it's hard to do these things alone. Don't

have anyone to go with. But, I will think about it today and maybe go in the

morning.

I guess I'm just afraid of being snubbed since I weigh 125 and not the 160 I

used to. I'm such a chicken :)

I completely agree! I think the leader makes all the difference. I've gone

to the same meeting since September, but my schedule has changed and this

week I had to go to a different meeting. It was OK, but I really missed the

spirit of my regular meeting. Every week the leader gives out different

little stickers to put in your member booklet for meeting behavioral goals

(drinking water, exercising, fruits/veggies, spending money on yourself - my

personal favorite). I didn't think I'd miss them, but I really did. I

almost stopped at the store on my way home to buy some stickers for myself!!

I'm going to try to find another meeting that she leads that will fit into

my schedule.

I wouldn't worry about feeling stupid starting meetings with 8 lbs to

go. My mom has been doing WW at home and is having a really hard time

with her last 15 lbs. If she is still " stuck " at the end of February

she is going to give meetings a shot. I really enjoy them. The leader

and the group make the difference!

It really isn't so bad. I went by myself the first time (and still do) and

you really don't have to talk to anyone if you don't want to. Just tell the

gal at the door you are new and they give you a form to fill out and then

you go and weigh in. So you really only have to talk to two people... then

find that everyone is really very nice and Everyone at that meeting has had

to work up the courage to walk through the door that first time! And that's

really the most difficult thing you will have to do is walk through the door

the first time, after that it's a breeze.

I was nervous at first too, but now I look forward to going to my

meetings. I have a whole room full of new friends dealing with similar

issues. There are many people there who are already lifetime, and then

there are the members who have 100+ pounds to lose, and everywhere in

between. It is great to hear everyone's opinions on things. Different

recipes, exercise, plateau's. The great thing about such a mix of

people is if you have a question someone is likely to be able to answer

it. The other members can really relate to what you are going through.

If they snub you... find another meeting! I seriously doubt they will say

anything other than " welcome " to you. Besides they don't know you used to

weigh 160 unless you tell them! ;o) There are lots of gals that come in with

only 15 or 20 pounds to loose.

Everyone at those meetings wants to see you succeed and they don't care if

you started out trying WW on your own, on-line, or with materials that your

friend gave you. (Not to mention the fact that they get paid by attendance

so every person means more $$ in their pocket) We have several gals who

attend the meetings and then go home and go over everything with their

husbands so they can follow the plan too and not have to attend the

meetings. The leaders know all about it and don't care. The three leaders

that I have been around are very laid back and have a great sense of humor.

And two of them have gone on and off WW several times and decided to become

leaders because it helps them maintain their own weight loss.

Your running out of excuses so just GO!! :o)

I so agree with this! I drive right past a WW center 2 miles from my house,

all the way to the other side of town to go to my WW meeting because the

leader is positive, energetic and well prepared. I have been to WW

meetings where either the meeting is a long gripe session or all they

talk about is food and what they ahve been eating. Now don't get me wrong,

I like the food tips, but there has to be more to a meeting than that.
