April,

Thanks for your comments! (They get e-mailed to me.) I agree, if I

restrict myself too much that's a sure way to cause a binge!!

(Believe me, I never want to get back to THAT again.)

Question for everyone---

Has anyone read the book French Women Don't Get Fat?

And what did you think of it?

I read that one, and it was ok. I preferred The Fat Fallacy: The French Diet Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss. It was better in my opinion and more full of useful information.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy: 1. Free your heart from hatred. 2. Free your mind from worries. 3. Live simply. 4. Give more. 5. Expect less.

I looked at / through it, but I didn't read it. If I remember correctly, though,

my first impression was that it's another " diet " . (Don't quote me on that,

though, as my memory tends to be AWFUL!) LOL

I read it, it was an easy read, it was basically just not settling

for food that you don't love, never eat something that doesn't meet

your standards, kind of being a 'food snob' *grin*. It did sort of

stray toawrds a diet though. Get it from your library, don't spend

money on it.

Hi!

I am in the same boat... this weekend I was away with my family visiting friends. They had made chicken parm and eggplant parm from scratch.... the chicken was breaded, fried, and covered in cheese... smelled it for a good 2 hours before we ate and I was so hungry when we sat down. I actually started eating/nibbling before most of the ppl meandered to the table outside... they or the whole process had already been underway for some time (ppl had started to serve themselves but some had not gotten to the table). But I made myself stop at one slice of chicken and 2 slices of eggplant because I wanted a piece of cherry pie I had brought and made.... I was actually still hungry while waiting for pie and got up and sat with one of my friends daughters at the kids table to take a "back seat" from the food. Later, everyone was complaining how stuffed they were.. and I just kept my mouth shut. I did nibble more on 2 cookies and a fruit frozen bar and definately had a 2nd small slice of pie... but I stoppe at a 7 or 8- and it was over a few hours.

oh and lots of ppl have noticed my weightloss... ;)

Hi all,

The sucess stories are very encouraging. I'd be interested in knowning how everyone is fairing with their weight releases. I know this is a slower process because it's not a diet, but hearing the stories of others who are making it work is very helpful.

Until the last week, I had been watching my calories, but I found that made me very food obsessed and I don't like feeling that way, so now this last week since I started IE, I have tried not to focus on food except when I am hungry. It seems to be working so far, but there is a little niggly thing in the back of my mind that is worried that the other shoe is going to drop and I am goiing to freak out because I am eating ice cream or a part of a piece of cake and the old thought patterns are going to take over and convince me this can't work and that only a diet can. Do those thoughts and fears fade with time?

Thanks,

Isnt' that the best feeling when people really notice your weight loss? It makes it feel like your hard work is really paying off. (Well, in addition to how great YOU feel of course!) I'm glad to hear you were sucessful at not stuffing yourself at the picnic. Isn't it a great feeling not to be stuffed, haha? One thing I am learning is that I am very satisfied on very little food....but if I over-serve myself, I will most likely eat that whole amount anyway. So now I take the littlest bit of food (well, within reason), and tell myself if I want more, I can always go get more! Usually I find I am satisfied with the small amount, and too lazy to go get myself another piece. :) By the way, I see that you have Maine in your e-mail address. Is that where you live? I live in Michigan, but am getting married in Maine in August. It's my favorite place in the whole world!! Lauriegombar

,

I have been doing IE for a week and 2 days now, and I have lost 2

pounds! I totally understand how hard it is to give your the old

lifestyle. In fact, today, after lunch, I found myself

unconsciously trying to estimate the number of calories I head eaten

so far today!! I immediately told myself to stop. The most

promising thing to me is that I KNOW that when I listen to my body

to tell me when I'm hungry and full, I actually eat LESS than when I

was counting my calories!

, last week I was feeling exactly the same way, wondering if the other shoe was going to drop (or had it already???). I had gained 5 lbs over a month's time, and really had a terrible urge to go on another diet to make sure I wasn't going to gain ANOTHER 5 lbs. All my lovely friends here spoke many words of wisdom and reason, and I got through that urge without falling back into my old cycle (making IE just another "failed attempt" in my long list of weight loss attempts) of dieting followed by a binge(s). I've decided to weigh myself once a week, just for interest's sake, and this morning I was down 4 lbs since last Monday. I have yet to drop below the weight I was when I started, but I'm hoping that'll happen eventually if I just stay in tune with my body's needs, cause I'd like to be about 80-100 lbs less than I am right now. Something I've observed lately is that my body seems to crave the foods it needs. A few days ago I was craving bananas and then noticed I was having terrible muscle cramps and was probably potassium (or magnesium?) deficient. The last few days I've been craving protein, and have been extremely tired, so I'm probably a bit anaemic right now. It's pretty cool how that works. I suppose if other mammals have instinct, we probably do too, but have just overpowered those instincts with other distractions and technology. Why listen to instinct when you can read a book and input foods into a computer program and have it tell you exactly what you need? (Or so they claim).

Hugs,

April

Dear , I know what you mean about feeling like if you don't keep track you won't loose weight. Stopping the calorie count is a huge sucess because I think it might have ended up feeling like another diet. I know the weight loss seems like the main thing...like the only sign of accomplishment. Boy do I know, I have over 100 lbs to loose in order to be somewhat healthy, at least thats what I think. But I notice that I really trip myself up when I make it about the food. The real goal is to change my relationship with eating...overeating manely. If I takle the issues that make me overeat, then the intuitive eating lifestyle tells me my body will naturally follow. and it has started. I think ultimatley the self trust has to be really present, knowing that your body can and will make the right decision as to how much you need, and eventually even have a desire to eat "healthier" food, if given the opportunity. Don't give up...Your'e worth it!!

I've been estimating my calories the last couple of days out of curiosity,

all the while knowing I must stop doing this and I will make an effort to do

that tomorrow, but I have found the very same thing....that I eat less when

eating h/f than when I counted calories. Pretty cool!

I've been VERY tempted to do the same, cause I suspect I'm eating a LOT less than I used to, but I've decided that might just make me feel like I have license to keep eating to fill my old calorie "quota" even when I KNOW I'm already satisfied. The reason for this is that some days I eat more, depending on circumstances, such as attending a baby shower last week (eating two absolutely delicious hot dripping in butter croissants), and so I think it balances itself out over time.

That's just it, eh? I do the same thing ... over-serve myself, and then eat it all. I still have yet to take less food and then just tell myself the "I can have more later" bit. I've known about this "trick" for quite some time, but for some reason I keep "rebelling" against it.... Don't know why.... Underlying belief that I *need* more food, perhaps? Hmmm.....
