Guest guest
Hi everyone, It's been quite a while since I posted (I'll fill you all in later if I can). Anyway, being that I'm now going to physio (for a few weeks anyway), I've been trying to educate my PT (a student) a bit. I found an article on a Sports Medicine journal about proprioceptive training (wobble board) for ankle sprain instability. See article in full if you're interested: http://www.findarticles.com/cf_0/m0918/1_29/70634371/p1/article.jhtml Anyway, it talks about putting a strip of tape on either side of the ankle while training to increase the skin stretch receptors feedback, thereby increasing proprioception. It got me thinking... 1) could this be used on other joints? 2) if we have extra stretchy skin does this help account for the decreased proprioception we seem to have? On a more personal note, my PT has agreed with me that I have hypermobility in some of my joints, and that I need to see a rheumatologist. Like I've been telling them all this for months...duh! No one has mentioned EDS, but I was wondering about this stretchy skin thing...how stretchy is stretchy? None of my friends will let me pull their skin about to compare. My skin is most stretchy over joints - for example I can pull about half an inch over my elbows when my elbow is fully bent... Anyway, I've typed more than I was going to already, cheers Rory (England, UK) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
