Today I'm feeling back to my old self. Seems I

do better at home. The continual hunger on some days really baffles

me. Any help would be appreciated.

Ii've noticed that after I overeat, while I would guess I'd be so

full from the extra food the next day that I wouldn't be hungry, it

often happens that I am MORE hungry the next day! Maybe because your

stomach is a little stretched out from all the extra food, so it

takes more to fill it up? That's just an idea, but I'm not sure!

That sounds so true. Maybe it is

because after eating too much, then not so much, the body is trying to readjust

itself to a regular system, perhaps swinging back and forth before it balances

out.

I've had a few days where I've been constantly ravenous -- didn't matter what I

ate, or when, I just needed to keep eating! And, maybe on those days your body

needs more sustenance? I don't know, exactly. There's got to be some sort of

scientific explanation for it, I'm sure. All I can think, though, is that, if

you're feeding it a balance of ALL the food groups, then it shouldn't matter if

you have to eat even once an hour! :-?

Just go with it, and relax, trusting that your body knows what it's doing. :o)

PS... My weekends are always a struggle 'cause hubby's home, and it just screws

up my " routines " royally! LOL

Hi Jenn--

I read your blog the other day about good/bad food. I think this sentence kind

of plays into that:

-

All I can think, though, is that, if you're feeding it a balance of ALL the food

groups

-

You asked in your blog how to stop thinking like that...it is really hard, isn't

it? I think I may have gotten to that point, but it took a long time.

How about looking at it this way...when you say the food is good/bad for

you--you are actually giving yourself permission to have it not be you. Does

that make sense?

We struggle with excess weight because we eat too much and for reasons other

than physical hunger. When I say it is because I am eating brownies instead of

fruit when I want something sweet--well, it sort of excuses me from having to

exercise some control over myself. It is like I am not taking responsibility for

what (how much)I put in my mouth. It isn't about the food at all. If you overeat

supposedly healthy foods--you will still be overweight. (By using the word " you "

in this--I do not mean you specifically--I mean it as a general " you " that could

be each of us.)

Hmmm, this just kind of came out as I was typing--but I think there is a message

in here for me (which is how it usually works ;-)

Okay... so what you're saying is that, if I say the food is good/bad for me, I'm

in essence shirking the blame for whatever's causing me to eat? I'm excusing my

supposed lack of self-control? Is that what you mean?

Gosh...I hope my answer didn't sound as harsh as how you re-wrote it!!! If it

did, I'm sorry, that wasn't my intention.

But, in essence, yes. I wrote last week about how I would read every book I

could get my hands on about IE and before that it was on dieting--searching for

a magic pill, something that would make it all click and then the weight would

just fall off.

In doing that--I always took my effort out of the equation. This is work and

parts of it are really hard work. I am changing years and years of thinking.

Everything I've read about IE, and I am talking about the cognitive therapy type

of stuff--changing my thinking, require a huge effort on our part. Sometimes it

is so frustrating being in that effort--makes me want to give up.

I have noticed, though, that with continued effort, it does get easier. It used

to be that I would just each without regard for hunger/fullness. Then, I could

do it some of the time, before you know it, it happens a lot of the time, etc...

Attaching good/bad labels to food gives ME just more things to focus on instead

of what I am supposed to be doing--waiting for hunger, paying attention to my

body's cues, stopping when I am satisfied.

You and I seem to be at the same place with IE--we've had some success, love the

way it is so freeing. I think I reacted to what you were writing--because I

identified myself in it.

Nah, I didn't see your post as harsh... No harm done. :o)

I just rewrote it so I could be clear on what you were trying to say.

I see what you mean... You can read & read, and talk & talk, but until you work

on it, you're still avoiding the issue, right? I read a LOT of books about

changing the emotional side of my eating, and yet I haven't really put much

effort into DOING it. I mean, yes, I have tried to speak more positive words

instead of negative ones. And, I've been more *aware* of what I'm doing and the

possible reasons *why*... (like my blog post about labeling foods " good/bad " ).

But, it's a matter of taking that info and USING it ... that's where I start

getting lazy, and that's probably a large part of why I'm not releasing any

weight right now.

In all honesty, though, somewhere around June 22nd (when I started this group),

I had decided to not worry about my numbers for a while (whether I

gained/lost/maintained), and just to worry about/focus on my emotional reasons

for overeating -- eating outside of h/f. ANd, since then, amazingly, I've been

eating 0-5 almost every mean (still sometimes 0-6 or -7), without giving much

thought to it, or putting much effort towards it! LOL

Go figure.

I am always hungry on the day I ovulate. I don't know why, but I

think my body's metabolism speeds up on this day and for a few days

afterward. It seems like I just can't stop eating around that

time. Could that be it?

Yay! That is what I want to hear. I am really hoping that through

this whole process that what happens is that I stop thinking

about/obsessing about food all the time. I want to release the

weight, of course, but more than that, I want to release this

ridiculous obsession! God did not put me on this earth and make these

discerning taste buds so that I would end up hating myself for eating.

I want to give myself permission to eat anything, but not anything in

excess. That just makes me feel physically bad anyway. The point is

(for me) to stop labeling some foods " right " and others " wrong. " The

point is to learn how to respect and honor my body and mind. The

point is learning how to appreciate this gift that God gave me.
