Hi Everyone-

I've been lurking and reading for the past few days, so I thought I

would jump in and introduce myself. I am a 44 year old woman,

happily married for almost 18 years with 2 wonderful daughters. I

live in sdale, AZ and have gone to college again after all

these years to pursue a degree in interior design.

My diet history has been a rocky one. I have tried about everything

in the pursuit of weight loss and only find myself frustrated and

unhappy at where I end up. That's why I am at the IE way of eating.

I find I can't and won't diet anymore. I have punished myself for

way too long with food. After dieting myself up to 285 (at 5'0 " ), I

had a gastric bypass in October 1999. I reached a 160 lb. weight

loss and it has crept back on. I have gained almost 50 lbs. back

over the last 4 years. The gastric bypass did not end my obsessions

with food. It just made it harder to overeat!

I have such a strong desire to have a healthy relationship with food

again. I have always hated cooking. It is probably because of the

mixed feelings that food has always caused me. It has always been

such a love/hate relationship. I have started reconnecting with food

in a positive way through cooking. I am giving myself permission to

enjoy food again. I found a recipe site (www.allrecipes.com) where

other people rate the recipes so you know if you're trying a good

one or not. I have been making a lot of comfort type food lately,

not craving the sweets that I binged on in the past. My family is

reaping the benefits of getting a nice homecooked meal and eating

together. I am finding pleasure in the process of cooking for the

first time in my life.

I haven't finished the Intuitive Eating book yet. I'm taking it

slowly. I am very aware of the concepts involved because in the

1990's I read all the Geneen Roth books, went to a seminar she held,

but just wasn't truly ready to embrace the concept yet.

Sorry for rambling, I look forward to our journey together.

Welcome, Susie! Glad you've joined us! :o)

I love www.allrecipes.com! I go there when I'm stuck for something to make for

dinner. Always something there. :o)

And, as for the IE book, I finally got my Interlibrary Loan copy today, so I'll

be starting it tonight! :o) (I know, I know -- I started a group based off the

title of a book I've not even read! LOL)

Susie,

Your journey mirrors mine. I love Geneen Roth, but she didn't quite

hit home with me the same way the authors of Intuitive Eating did.

Welcome! I am so excited to see more and more people coming to this

way of thought.

Sue,

I am glad you are here.

I am 44 also. I have 4 kids, ages 24, 22, 15, & 12, and I am a grandma

to a 18 month little girl. I don’t really care to cook either but I

have to for the family. I never did bake much, want to know

why? I knew that I would eat all the forbidden foods. Here I

was a very huge woman that didn’t bake cookies because I knew I would put

on ‘a few more pounds’. I have been thinking about baking

something when the weather cools down. I feel that I can handle having a

tray of cookies or such in the house now. Today I bought some packaged cookies.

I tried them with dinner and they didn’t taste so great. I am

finding that I am getting awfully picky about my food now.

I have learned to savor the food

lately. What a new sensation in dining pleasure.
