Guest guest
I am new to the group and also a new Thyroid Ca patient. I had a total T-ectomy on 12/12 due to a tumor on my left lobe. I was advised that the tumor was rather large which required removal of the entire gland. According to the medical team I have a 92% success rather. I was diagnosed with Follicular Ca. I will be going through the scan on 1/16 with the high dose of I131. I am curious to know how anyone else has made out and whether most people feel comfortable with having been diag with Thyroid Ca. It seems from what I read that the success rate is high. I am more concerned with susequent weight-control now that I no longer have a thyroid. Having been an avid body builder for the past 10+ years, I have made it my focus to maintain a good body mass. How will the lack of a gland affect this? Will I find it ever difficult to maintain my weight on the Synthroid? Is there anything I can do to keep the weight off if I begin to gain wt? (Obviously Holiday wt gain is not included here.) I won't be on the hormone for another 6-8 weeks. Will I see a downward progression on my stamina until I am on synthetic hormone? How well are the I-131 treatments tolerated by people? I have questions that have been answered somewhat by the medical team but would like some real life examples of what people have gone through. I am 35 and in good health except for this. Thanks.
