, welcome to the party!

Your post is like a breath of fresh air! I was so happy to read

that you and your husband are doing this together. My wife Amy

and I are, as well. I began at the beginning of October, and Amy

started just a couple of weeks later. I am 'At-Home' as well, and

Amy goes to local meetings.

We've both attained 20+ lb losses since then and, like you, we're

delighted! I personally have found the Points system the best WOE

(way of eating) that I've ever seen. Like you I have been

overweight and struggled with it since childhood. I have also

been treated for clinical depression, but I think the WW food

thing even helps that! :-)

Regards and a big congratulations to both you and your hubby --

sounds like you're off and running! I think you will find SWW a

wonderful source of support and help. Please be sure to speak up

if *any questions arise. There is some tremendous wealth of WW

experience on this list, and the members are the nicest bunch of

'losers' you've ever met! LOL

I'm really looking forward to you sharing your progress, your

experiences and ideas with us! Glad you are here, and tell hubby

not to be afraid to speak up either -- guy-posts are *always*

welcome (especially by *this* guy!).

Best regards,

Tony Florida

Welcome ,

Don't beat yourself up about the exercise...if you're walking a mile and a

half daily, you ARE getting some good exercise. Maybe make it a goal to add

a little bit of something every day...maybe do some sit-ups, or some

push-ups or walk up and down the stairs 10 times in a row, then 20 times, or

work out once a week to a tape or something (check your

local library to see if they have some)

And housework is worth Activity Points, too! Although I wouldn't get too

excited about them. Congratulations.

I personally think self-esteem issues are central to many eating disorders

so congrats on recognizing that and doing something positive for yourself!!

Welcome .

This is a great group for motivation and encouragement. I've been here

since I started WW in July 2002. As of last week I have lost 50.5 lbs

with about 30 lbs to go. I am still very motivated and physically and

mentally I feel so much better than I did 6 months ago.

Way to go . That motivation sure keeps us going, doesn't it?

I wonder why some people find it easier to remain motivated and others

have such a hard time?

Well, it may not be the most popular view, Tory, but I have a

hunch it's a combination of wanting it badly enough, coupled with

a belief in oneself, that one is capable of doing it. Most of the

people I've seen who *really* struggle are either unwilling to

take the necessary actions, don't believe they have what it takes

to succeed, or both.

If the US government is right, and fully two-thirds of the

population is obese, then there are a whale of a lot of people

who " need " to get a program and make it work. But 'needing it'

and wanting it' are two very different things. So are " wanna lose

a few pounds " and " gotta overhaul my life! "

When I try to take emotions out of it, and just read what people

are saying, it becomes clear that so many *would* want it, if

only it were a bit easier.... Well, yeah, right! Wouldn't we all?

So, if I look at where motivation comes from, I know that real

motivation is not just sitting around and dreaming how nice it

would be to be thin. Without commitment and lots of action on my

part, it's *just* a dream, and will probably remain so.

To go back to the original post, it sounds like is one of

those who is in this for real -- I heard it in her first words! I

bet she and her DH are gonna make it!! <bg>

As I say, I know mine's not a really popular view, but FWIW, it's

mine..... :-)

You sure are soundimg a lot better than you did, btw -- I'm

really happy you're coming along!

Best,

Tony Florida

Hi :) I REALLY think you need to hit bottom in your eating... like a lot of

addictions. You cannot just ask someone to quit smoking and expect them to

do it because YOU want them to... THEY need to see a reason to do it and it

needs to be the right time for them.

I was really lucky to have Robb be at the same point but not really say

anything... or is it that men sometimes work different from women?

I know with my DH that he was also a bit scared of me losing weight and that

he might just stay the same... and I don't know, that maybe the attraction

would end? That would never happen because he is my soulmate, but I know he

has these fears.

I also think that WW is a great program in that it is EASY but you still

have to do some leg-work... leg work that makes you realize what you eat,

and drink, and DO or do NOT do. Gastric-Bypass has been seen as such an

easy way out... and people eat a little different or they don't and things

DO NOT change... then they HAVE to start doing the leg work because they

have no " easy-out " any more. I find it is SO much easier to eat now on WW

then when I was eating habitually for so many years. Maybe I am not

supposed to say this, but I really am ENOYING my food... not enjoying

EATING, but enjoying flavors, tastes, textures, experiences... etc. And my

life doesn't have to revolve around knowing the drive-up window girls' names

or which speed-dial number Pizza Hut is.

Anyway, just a couple pennies :)

I don't know

I think SOME people have to hit bottom. But I didn't. There is nothing

attractive about weighing 222 pounds, but it's certainly not abnormal. I

didn't hit bottom. I learned to love myself and treat myself with

respect. I was fat, not addicted.

Tory,

I have no idea why I am so motivated this time. I have never tried WW

before but I have done many diets and exercise classes. Always in

spurts and then I quit. I have never stuck with anything more than a

couple of months. Until WW. I'm not sure if it is the weekly meetings

or all my wonderful online friends. Or maybe this is just the " right

time " for me to lose this weight. If you are not ready, you won't put

what you need to into it. If you are doing this for someone else, it

will not work. You have to be ready to do this for yourself! I am just

really excited about the program. There is no reason to starve or

deprive yourself.
