Both the House and Senate versions of the Sustaining

Access to Vital Emergency Medical Services Acts are progressing in

Congress. Senator Conrad's and Congressman Kennedy's staff have spent

considerable energy soliciting cosponsors, but they still need our

help. Congress will recess next Friday until after Labor Day. Members

of Congress will be back in their home districts for almost a month.

This will be a perfect time for EMS providers and advocates to

encourage support and cosponsorship.

As a reminder, the bills contain two main provisions;

adoption of a Prudent Layperson standard for the payment of Medicare

claims, and a $50M grant program for rural EMS providers.
