I had one done a few years back for my legs, and I did not like it. However they did find that I had a lot of nerve damage at that point they thought it was due to diabetics. I have also had them done for my hands last year and again lot of damage to the nerve they felt was due to diabetics. I am sure now that when I go to see the Nuro on Monday he will say different. My diabetics is not insult required and I have always been in a good ranges when it come to the 3 month test. So I am sure he will say it is MS related.

For the most part I did not feel much as there is a lot of nerve damage, but I would feel it when they hit a live nerve. For me the most part was just the antiapation of the test.

Hi Sharon, I had an EMG done on my left leg, and I must say it was much better then the one I had done on my arm. Other then the slight electric shock I really didn't mind it. The fact that the Neuro told me that I didn't have ALS made me very happy so any discomfort was well worth it. I don't think you will have any problems and I didn't have any after effects other then a few small black and blue marks. Hope this helps ChuckSharon Marsden wrote: I'm supposed to have an EMG done on my legs on the 20th. If you have had one done I would like to hear what you thought of your experience. Sharon, I had one done about 5 years ago. Now my experience is not the norm. But I do hope this is how it works for you too. But the needles and the shocks tickled me. I laughed through the whole thing. My neuro laughed too because he's never had that happen before. I don't know why it tickled so much. Good luck with yours. x0x0x0 ShirleySharon Marsden wrote: I'm supposed to have an EMG done on my legs on the 20th. If you have had one done I would like to hear what you thought of your experience. Hi Sharon, My son and I have both had EMGs done on our legs. There is two ways that they can choose to do it. My son had both done and I have only one done. I have had the EMG done a few times and it really isn't bad at all. Just a little funky feeling but no pain or serious discomfort. Really nothin' to be nervous about. The doctor just took some electrodes and gave little shocks to spots on my legs and feet -- no biggy at all. Just a little weird that you can't control your leg from jumping a little. My son on the other hand had both do both. One was the electrodes and the second was taking a small needle probe and inserting it into his muscles. I didn't expect this when he was in the children's hospital and they took him downstairs for the test since I had only had the electrode EMG. He said the needle was quite painful and I could tell that it was horrible. Unfortunately,

they had to repeat the tests on him a month or so later when he was readmitted to check for further damage to his muscles and nerves. I had my latest one done at the beginning of summer. I was nervous thinking what if they do the needle one on me. My doctor said that they don't do the needle on MS patients since they already know that this is a disease effecting the nerves and they don't need to do this to determine what disease the patient has. They did this on my son while they were still doing his work-up. My neuro did the electrode one on me to check my small nerves only --- so much easier. Don't be nervous --- it's just a little funky feeling and you get the results right there. Smiles and hugs to you. I hope this helped. I had one, he also did my arms (for carpal tunnel) and my

neck...nothing like a needle in the back of the neck.... I didn't

laugh, I wanted to hurt him...bad..(just kidding, I'm a pacifist) but

it was painful and something I hope to not have to repeat soon...but

good luck on yours, maybe you'll be the tickle type too!

Thanks . Your poor son! I've had the nerve conduction test done on my arms and hands several times. That was a piece of cake. Actually I like the feeling of the electric shocks... like the treatments at physical therapy. lol My doctor already told me they are doing the shock part and the needles on me because he says something else is going on with beside MS. It's not the needles so much that has me spooked-it's something else. To be honest??? It's my big fat legs. LOLOL I just don't want to show off my fat legs. I know my neuro does the needle part himself and his nurse practitioner does the electric shock part. I don't mind her seeing my fat legs (although she is wispy skinny) but my neuro has already told me several times that I

need to lose weight. As if I don't know that already, huh? So I just don't want him lookin' at my legs. I am trying to talk myself out of going. Can you tell? hugs)))Sharon Sharon (MSersLife Group Owner/Creator) It's not easy taking my problems one at a time when they refuse to get in line. ~Ashleigh Brilliant Re: anyone had an EMG on their legs? I had one done on my left arm and it hurt but at the time I was having all that nerve pain to begin with. I imagined all types of torture for the person who was doing the test. I don't think it would have been too bad if I didn't hurt already. We wen't to a demolitian derby last night for Robbie and three others to entertain the crowd with the racing mowers. Next weekend we drive to Amarillo tx A GOOD 10 TO 11 HOUR TRIP FROM WHERE WE LIVE.I dread the drive. We'll leave here at noon on Friday and get in around 10 or 11 pm. They don't race till the Sat night at 6pm so after the races we'll go back to the hotel then get up Sun morning and drive home. Keep your fingers crossed for me for cool weather. Last night was sort of tough. Haven't had to use my cane all week but about 2 hours into the evening I had to pull it out and by the end of the night, midnight I could barely walk at all. I go to

the special neurologist(the one that specializes in the tremors) on Thurs. and I'm going to tell her I'm not going back to the one who referred me to her. (The one who told me I needed to see a psychiatrist because there was no organic cause for my sy,mptoms) so keep your fingers crossed. ' in Texas "Rev. Hi Sharon, You make me chuckle a little and also make me relate to you on this! I haven't felt good about my weight in so long. I especially hate being told or reminded that I am not at my physical peak. LOL. But with this disease it is really, really hard to get ourselves in any sort of good shape. I can tell you this though - if it offers any help---- I used to work in nursing and honestly, parts is parts! They look at so many people and their parts - be it legs, arms, tummies (my worst) and so on - that it REALLY is like a mechanic working on a car part. This test is important to your well being ---- so I tell you this - even if they think horrible things (which they won't) do this for YOU because you care about yourself and you are worthy of this! I pray to God that nobody went into medicine expecting to work on perfect people and perfect bodies - can you imagine the disappointment! LOL If

they are horrible like that - then to heck with them (really, screw them- hate to talk that bluntly- but truly - then they can get over themselves). But I imagine that they went into medicine to HELP! So hang in there! Lots of hugs and smiles (and a few giggles) Sharon Marsden wrote: Thanks . Your poor son! I've had

Oh fun, needles in the neck! Woohoo! LOLOL Mom, do you remember I had one done on my left arm within the last year, for CTS? It wasn't a problem. The needles aren't the horrible long, tapestry-type needles. lol They're lighter, flimsy? Reminded me of accupuncture, or what I imagine accupunture needles to be like. LOL The needles really didn't hurt me going in. It wasn't a bunch of needles in and left in. Just that one needle at the spot being tested, then moved. One spot was... a little achey in the muscle? Hard to explain how it felt, but it wasn't "bad". Apparently, in the "drumstick" of the thumb is where most have trouble with. The doc gave me warning of this before putting the needle in (I'm not sure that's a great idea lolol), and I really don't recall feeling much of anything.

He'd noticed and commented, but the point is, he let me know where the harder spot "might" be. I don't know how many others do this, or if it'd truly help someone, though. For me, it just wasn't bad. Ah, and being needles and all that fun, I was well hydrated before going in, too. Keep your vitamins and fish oil up and your skin will be more supple and giving. That can only help. :o) Challis "Rev. Michels" wrote: I had one, he also did my arms (for carpal tunnel) and myneck...nothing like a needle in the back of the neck....
