Guest guest
Hi Joe, everyone I think that beneath the witty urbane veneer and the fashionable irony, I'm actually an idealist! Look at what I wrote- although I was joking, and although I said I didn't think this was what was happening, I think underneath it all I was still hoping there that somebody was actually, really and sincerely, " working the steps " . How very sweet of me. I know how you feel. Maybe thats partly why we're so mad. We went to this religion and actually did work the steps. I could not understand how the others in the religon could be so dishonest and abusive if they were actually working the steps. When I saw I had gone to all this trouble to work the steps believing I had to do this to stay sober, and I was surrounded by others who obviously never had really worked them and were sober, I got pissed! Especially when I started complaining and was told I had to find my part in the anger. I have found my part, folks. Selfish, dishonest, self-seeking, and frightened. I went to AA and worked the steps. How very sweet of me. If you said that in a meeting I went to, you would be corrected - my sponsor, when reading how it works at a meeting, often said " Here are the Steps we TOOK, which... " " Yea, well, yall can 'work the steps' all yall want, I'm grateful I'm TAKING the Steps and am actualy finding recovery, and the happiness joyousness, and freedom this program promises... Just add " one day at a time " or " and for that I am eternally grateful " or similar phrase to each sentence... >I know how you feel. Maybe thats partly why we're so mad. Guest guest
Are you sure he didn't say, " these are the 12 step LISTS we TOOK [from Amazon.com]? " There are such unfortunates. They are pompous fools. They read the literature giving special emphasis to words that they think others need to have emphasised. Note that we only have this person's word for it that he is actually " finding recovery " ! The likelihood that a fundamentalist who is hung up on words for everyone else's alleged benefit is experiencing a higher level of mental health than the assembled mustitude is not great. Apparently Trimpey says something about " recovery group disorders " . I would be interested to read it- does anyone know where it is to be found? Guest guest
After several years of stepper bullshit I found the freedom to say 'fuck off' when clowns would start in with the special emphisis to words game. I have to tell you that there was no greater joy than looking those jerks in the eye (and having over a decade sober) and saying " you're a jabbering idiot; shut up " . The pompous idiots just stand there in disbelief that one of their own would refute the " word " . Imagine, if you will, Reese and Glenn in a meeting spewing psychosis at the multitudes and one guy stands up and sez " I don't buy it and no one else does either " . It's poetry......
