Guest guest
Has anyone gotten a flu shot? I got one yesterday - mega ouch. My arm swelled up in the area of the shot about the size of my hand and a1/2 inch out, and red. I called the doctor today and they said I had a little " local reaction " !!!!!!! Everytime I moved my arm last night, it woke me up. Today was just as bad and it still hurts. I put cold on it and took my anti-inflammatories and pain meds, but it still hurts. Anyone had this kind of reaction? Hugs Copeland, HEDS

Cold compresses and patience were recommended. It will go away and the injection should still protect you from flu. I have mine 19 October, assuming I don't get the RA diagnosis. As RA is an auto immune disease, fly jabs are banned. Asthma means I have to have it. If I have RA, I can't. Guest guest
Too late for me. I already got the flu and the usual few days after relapse:( I alsways seem to be a step behind! Know this is not relevant but after a day in bed, feeling awful with multiple dogs sleeping on top of me I had to communicate with a non-canine species! Sorry to hear that you already got the flu...but think of it this way, when the rest of us get, you'll be over it! <G> I have had flu shots and still have gotten the flu so I just don't get the flu shot anymore... Guest guest
It depends... I was told by my endo that it was the worst possible thing that I could ever do.... I needed to build up natural immunity to things after having been hyper for so many years I never built up immunities... my body was pumping out so much heat and was at such a high metabolic rate that I never got sick... once I had the RAI and was no longer hyper.... I was supposed to just be open to natural exposure to produce antibodies to everything that was around me.... She also said that folks that were susceptible to virus would get the flu from the shot... and possibly even from being near someone that has gotten the shot, that they are contagious for three days after the shot... All I know is that the two or three times that I've been close to someone that has gotten a shot, I got the flu... so I stay away from the shot... and those that got it.... With the supposed shortage of shots, chances are we wouldn't be eligible for them anyway... we're not 'at risk'. Our local news said that some clinics were charging up to $100 per shot for anyone not on the 'at risk' list.... Another clinic, a children's clinic, don't remember where they are... had their shipment of vaccine stolen.... another clinic didn't cancelled appointments, but when the folks showed up for shots they were served chicken soup and given a box of tissues and told that the vaccine was not available. .... so I guess it's up to you if you want to try for it... Myself.... I'll stay away from those that get it and keep my hands washed and my vitamin C and peppermint tea handy.... Guest guest
Btw, I find this whole flu shot shortage thing to be very weird. As far as I understood it, there's only one major company that manufactures flu shots in the US. It so happened that this company was having some technical problems at their plant. Hence the shortage. What I don't understand is why this company couldn't speak up about the problem earlier? And why is there only 1 company manufacturing flu shots? I would imagine it's quite a good business, in terms of profit... Am I missing something? blithe > I'd always heard that I shouldn't because my immune system is off. > Odd. Well the flu shot maybe 'missing something' when it makes it's come back. For those of you without autistic kids, you may not be aware that there is a huge outcry about something called thimerisol - something used in a babies first vaccinations. Thirmerisol is a form of mercuy, and they have only just realised that mercuy is a toxin and should really not be in a vaccine for babies! But then should it really be in any vaccine - including the flu shot? Some of us feel that the mercuy did not help our autistic kids and there are others who feel that mercury does the elderly no favours either. It's strange because we are having a shortage of flu shot here in the UK - wonder why? Carole

Guest guest
Don't you worry.. I'm already dropping hints that when he finds a place he has to let me know... cause I have a friend, that he knows too, that also needs to find a place..... I won't be getting into the 'you're contagious to me' part of it.... I don't want him trying to 'prove me wrong' by not telling me and ending up sick again... I have toooo many plans for MY vacation... like sleeping regular hours, droping the thermostat DOWN and getting on line when ever I want, for as long as I want..... I have tons of stuff I want to do on my web sites.... and research.... stuff that's hard to do in an hour here, half hour there..... sigh only three weeks and 1 day to go!!! hehehehehe Topper () On Mon, 18 Oct 2004 15:41:07 -0700 (PDT) Kathy Kitzcat writes: I'm not doubting you a bit.
