Hey Everyone,

Ironically enough I haven't been reading the posts the last couple months

(Since I went hypo) and this is when I need you all the most. As I sit here

typing this post I have a very anxious feeling in my heart. I think it is

because I finally feel like I can share this news for the first time with

someone who will understand better than anyone else can how I feel. Even better

than I do. I don't quite know how to feel.

Quick update. Dx 11/00 both lobes and 8 positive lymph nodes. TT 12/00. Rai

175 mCi 1/01. Post scan showed expected residual activity in the neck nothing

anywhere else. Off meds (one year later) TSH 73. TG 38. Tracer dose given 48 and

72 hr scan came back clean. 204 mCi of rai given, 7 day scan showed activity in

the chest.

I don't know what this means. I know I am thankful something lit up. My Endo

and I will be talking again at the end of this week to schedule further tests to

determine exactly where this is. Could it be a lymph node or am I kidding

myself? Does mets to bone or lung change our mortality rate? Is one more

difficult by nature than another? I'm not scared but I take comfort in feeling

informed and because this is a new stage for me I haven't been asking the what

if questions because my understanding was this is not normally something you

need to be anticipating. What questions should I be asking? When they look for

this are they looking trying to decide whether or not surgery is warranted. I

assume waiting to see whether or not this new dose of rai can do the job makes

the most sense but are there certain things they look for to say, " it's not

worth waiting " ? Do mets generally happen this quickly for people who do get

mets?

I'm really looking forward to hearing from you all. I feel like I have been

walking around with no info for several days and it leaves me feeling

unprepared.

Thanks in Advance for your Time,

Bergeron (24 yr old in Tampa,FL)

Hi ,

I don't have information for you, but my heart sank when I read your

post - so, I'm only offering my heartfelt support.

You don't sound panicky - just smart to look for answers. Give

yourself room to feel desperate for answers - relaxing about

something like this will come later.

Meanwhile, know that I'm in your corner.

Hi ,

When I had chest mets, the doctors didn't tell me until after my dose. The

radiation oncology doctor showed me the post scan and said that the fact that my

chest was glowing meant that they gave me enough RAI to get past the neck mets

and to the chest area. That was almost 20 years ago and all is well. So, be

encouraged. The activity in your chest may mean that you got a sufficient dose

of RAI to kill it. This is the best case scenerio.

Keep asking questions when they come to mind. That is how we all learn. Ask your

endo why the further tests. They may be to determine the necessity of surgery

but may also be to determine if any further activity is present.

Best to you,
