Also, my understanding (and I could be wrong) is that sonograms are not an accurate means for finding thyca. This is simply a tool to give your Dr. a better idea of what to expect before a iodine WBS.(My sonogram of my neck showed a 1 inch by .5 inch mass on the left side of my neck. My chest X-ray came back clean. After 204 mCi of rai my iodine scan showed no activity in my neck with mets to my chest. So much for sonograms and X-rays) Once you have been given an ablative dose of I-131 what are your scans looking like seven to ten days later? Ask a lot of questions here. Everyone here will be able to help you ask the right questions of your Dr.s. I wish I could be more help but I'm seeking advice as well. Every single person on this list has felt that way at one time or another, it takes a good deal of time to get through that.The good news is that there are effective tests,scans and treatments in place for thyroid cancer and that is one of the reason we all grow old together and die from something else. Neck dissections are very affective for containing metastasis. I understand your concerns but you did get through you TT and live to tell about it, didn't you? :-) If you had problems last time at least this time you will be able to prepare yourself mentally so you can handle it better. There should be someone at the hospital to help you with this. None of us are clairvoyant and able to tell you if our life will be shortened by recurrance; I certainly hope not! If statistics mean anything, I'd venture to say you'll do fine. From my vantage point when I was your age I had 5 surgeries and have survived long enough to harass everyone on this list! We are all here for you to offer support and information....so take a deep breath,ask all the questions you can think of...and we will do our best to answer them and hopefully keep you calm!
