Alice,

I would shop for protein supplements before surgery, you might not feel up

to it after. I would also get: egg beaters, yogurt, shredded cheese (to

put in the eggs), Carnation Instant Breakfast (sugar free), Dole Fruit &

Juice Bars (no sugar added), potatoes (to mash), applesauce. These are the

things that I ate the first few weeks.

I would ask Dr. Thayer's office about the belly ring. The walkman might be

a good thing to take, don't take tapes or cd's though. That could invite

trouble. Not that I would worry, but why take the risk?

Let me know if you have anything other questions.

Diane

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading these wonderful tips from different people on hints for

pre-ops.

I was thinking it might be a good idea to compile a list of all these hints that

we could just give to pre-ops and know that they had it all!! It could be like

a cookbook with hints and some recipes if we want - all with each person

credited with their name.

Of course since I'm opening my big mouth I suppose I would volunteer to compile

it. Any thoughts??

HEY ALICE...I WILL ANSWER MY OPINION IN ALL CAPS SO IT WILL BE EASIER TO

FOLLOW......

<< I have a belly button ring. Should I take it out now, or wait until

right before surgery?

I WOULD TAKE IT OUT NOW SO IT CAN HEAL UP...THAT IS ONE LESS THING YOU NEED

TO BE WORRYING ABOUT AFTER SURGERY

- Should I buy protein drinks before surgery, or shop around after?

DEFINATELY BUY NOW...THAT WAY YOU WONT HAVE TO GO SHOPPING AFTER.

- How much sugar is too much? I'm finding it difficult to find

totally

sugar free foods. There's a fat-free yogurt I love, but it has 12

grams of sugar. Is that too much?

YOU WONT BE ABLE TO EAT A WHOLE YOGURT AFTERWARDS ANYWAY..I KEEP MY SUGAR

GRAMS TO UNDER 12 BUT IDEALY (FOR ME) UNDER 8 OR 9.

- Should I bring a walkman to the hospital?

I DID...AND IT WAS A GODSEND! MY ROOM-MATE TALKED IN HER SLEEP AMONG OTHER

THINGS!!!

- What foods or other items should I stock up on?

NO SUGAR ADDED POPCICLES OR ICECREAM..CRYSTAL LITE...BOULLION

Any othe tips or hints would be appreciated. Thanks!

LOTS OF LOTION...YOUR BODY WILL DRY UP LIKE A SALTINE CRACKER IN THE SAHARA!

Thanks to everyone who has answered my questions! It's so great to have you

all out there for support. Since getting my surgery date, food is on my mind

more than ever. I can't wait till I don't have to fret over eating a pint of

ice cream! Will I miss ice cream? Yes! But I'd rather not be able to eat it

at all than have to simply " cut down " Does that make sense?

Oh well, thanks again everyone! I'm sure I'll have more questions soon :)

I'd bring your own comfy pillow to the hospital too. Mine made all the

difference at night. Wish I had brought a blanket too at the time I was

freezing with the thin sheets they provide but ended up snatching the other

bedding and doubling up. They got the hint :)

Alice,

You will be able to have ice cream after surgery, just the " NO SUGAR ADDED "

kind. Trust me, you won't be able to handle a pint by any means afterwards,

at least for a long, long, long time! :)

Keep your chin up babe!
