I personally wouldn't give the DMSA in liquid form at all. Why take the

chance of it being unstable. We sprinkle DMSA in my son's pear sauce and he

eats it that way and I don't have to worry about it. We get it at Kirkmans

and it's a lot cheaper.

-----------------This is a fact. DMSA in liquid suspension will

rapidly lose potency. This was confirmed through testing at

compounding pharmacies producing it and by parents who switched and

saw how the " real " stuff then affected their child. DMSA capsules

should be broken open and mixed w/liquid immediately before dosing.

We have done this successfully for several months now.

Correct. At least not more than a couple of days after the bottle is

opened unless it is VERY tart (acidic). DMSA (and DMPS) are subject

to relatively rapid air oxidation in neutral and basic solutions.

Please see discussion on this list and extreme hullabaloo on other

lists about the " discovery " after a year or so of routine use that

people using liquid DMSA suspensions weren't getting their kids

chelated due to oxidation of the drug.

You should ask the pharmacist to either demonstrate that the DMSA

retains its potency or to reimburse you, since the pharmacist who

made it up is supposed to know these things (not that most do, or

could reasonably be expected to).
