Guest guest
Hi! I know I haven't written in a while but wanted to comment on a few things that have been mentioned. First, about hearing aides and insurance. Our insurance only covers for $100 for one time only. I paid for my own and never thought to ask insurance. I asked an outside agency to help cover for my daughter's and they did. Well, a year later I received a check from the hospital where we have aural rehab for my daughter stating insurance paid and here is your check back. What happen -- the hospital automatically build my insurance for the aides explaing how they were being used for her aural rehab sessions and guess what they paid 100%.Why? They pay for the aural rehab services too! You never know. Secondly, I just wanted to add my two cents in about not signing an IEP. I never signed my orignigal IEP assuming the same things mentioned but in my state because it was my FIRST IEP that is not what I was supposed to do. If I had an IEP already different story. That is what I was told and honestly we really got yelled at for this. We didn't sign at least 3 of them at the begining. Because of no signature it looked like we did not want to work with them. This was not the case at all we listened to the system but in the end we were the ones to take the brunt. Just check out your state rules first. The one exception, by federal statute and regulation, is that the parent(s) must expressly provide consent for the provision of **intial** services. The implementing regs at 34 CFR Part 300.505 Parental consent, states in pertinent part: " (a) General. (1) Subject to paragraphs (a)(3), ( and © of this section, informed parent consent must be obtained before- (i) Conducting an initial evaluation or reevaluation; and (ii) Initial provision of special education and related services to a child with a disability. " [Emphasis added.] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After the **initial** provision of services, not signing the IEP does not prevent it from being implemented.
