Guest guest
The GFCF diet helped the most and then getting rid of phenols, additives, preservatives in food--I think this is solving a part in the problem rather than a pharmaceutical band-aid. [ ] Need advice on hyperactivity/sleep deprivation Hi Listmates, I have been bending your ear lately on behalf of parents that are going through this chealation process. I have a friend with an asd child who is 6 1/2 years old and has never slept through the night. I know many of you can relate to this. The problem they are having is that is waking up several times during the night, and during the day very hyperactive. They are giving her melatonin and it gets her to sleep, but does not help the waking up during the night. The doctor wants to give her clonadine for the hyperactivity, but it makes her sleepy and she cries alot, so that isn't an option for them. Any suggestions as to products to help her sleep, or help the hyperactivity? Thanks in advanced for my tired friend! At 3 1/2, he began some isolated episodes of hyperactivity which gradually became more frequent. At 4 1/2, we suspected he had hypoglycemia (on top of a whole bunch of other stuff). We changed his diet (already were gfcf, Feingold, no yeast, sugar, nuts, eggs, etc) by feeding protein with every meal and especially before bed. In 2 days, he was only waking twice a night and now, a few months later, rarely wakes at all during the night. The book I read to help with this diet was Your Carbohydrate Addicted Kids (by Hellman and Hellman, I think). This diet also helped some with his hyperactivity, though I realize now that phenols were also a big key to his hyperacticity. I know this isn't the answer for everyone, but reducing phenols and following the hypoglycemia diet worked wonders for us. Debbie
Guest guest
I'm sorry to have this repeated, but could someone please tell me again what phenols are? Thanks. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! Any suggestions as to products to help her sleep, or help >the hyperactivity? Hi Jane, I have a rather bizarre comment; would require a " try it out " sort of attitude, and perhaps some research. Use brain synchronization tapes that use binuaral beat to create brainwave states. I know that may sound like gobbledey gook. It is actually pretty straight forward, but amazing. You play a recording, with headphones on. The recording has different frequencies playing in each ear. The brain actaully synchronizes itself on the difference between them. So, recordings can be made that will result in different kinds of brainwave states. Like focused/creative, or asleep. I'm not sure if this will KEEP you asleep all night, but for sure you can cause " deep sleep " brainwaves -- which I think will put most people right to sleep. (After the tape ends, you might stay asleep or wake up though?) The tape " sound sleeper " tape listed here, for example: http://www.hemi-sync.com/catalog/single.html That page is a sub-part of this page: http://www.hemi-sync.com/catalog/ click on " single tapes and CDs " This will only work if the child involved will listen with headphones on. The sounds have to be played into R and L ear separately. I have not used the sound sleeper tape (I think I have 1 or 2 tapes from the monroe institute somewhere --- the catalog I just cited is The Monroe Institute. Their main site is here: http://www.monroeinstitute.org/ The tapes I listen to (almost every night) are from www.centerpointe.com Their stuff is MUCH more expensive that other companies' but I think worth it. I would recommend their program to anyone, but must warn you about their bizarre and obnoxious advertising. best, Moria
Guest guest
Ok we put up with the sleep thing for 6 years then we introduced Vallergan 2mls each night - then discovered melatonin we now use melatonin plus only 1 ml of vallergan it works really well -hes such a happier boy from the extra sleep easier in many ways. I remember it took a few days for the vallergan to work and curb old habits - but now when I have tried to stop it slowly over a few nights he is back to waking anytime from 4 in the morning - with the mel/vall unless he is unwell its between 6 and 7am. I haven't seen anyone mention Vallergan on this list before - the really good thing about it once you get the dose right for your child there is now hangover effect. weighs 56lbs. Hope this helps. Terri s Mum to 8yrs, Todd 4yrs both Aut/Dys/ADD who knows what else - but improving with chelation. Guest guest
Teri, Hi, where do you get valergan? Is is something purchased at the health food store and is it related to vallerian root? Thanks for the tip! Jane
Guest guest
Have they tested the little girls yeast levels. Both symptoms of hyperactivity and night waking are relavent to yeast overgrowth. She should have stool and urine testing done to find out about both anerobic and aerobic yeast and see if this is the culprit! (They can check for all the other gut bugs as well, which might be very helpful.) Good Luck
Guest guest
Hi sorry its not that healthy - the full name is Vallergan Forte 30mg/5ml on prescription - I should think it would be under the same name in the US its in the same family as phenergan but much stronger so you only need a tiny bit. Regards Terri PS forgot to give to Mitch last night sure enough woke at 5.00am, my little one I have been hanging out to see if his sleep improves naturally but he woke at 4.30am so will probably have to go down the same ave with him shortly. Lots of tired parents and kids out there without a little help we would all go over the edge I am sure. Re: [ ] Need advice on hyperactivity/sleep deprivation >Teri, > >Hi, where do you get valergan?
