Hi Jai,

Been off of here for a few days and i'm trying to catch up, excuse me

for being slow. My arms and hands have really been hurting and with

the rainy weather, it doesn't help much.

Yes the carpal tunnel is in both hands, i only had the surgery on the

right one. Was to scared to get the left one done after being

diagnoised with rsd in the right extermity. Thought that would save

my left side but it didn't had no idea at the time that this stuff

spreads.

I do thank God everyday that it hasn't spread any where else.

I will try to keep up with all the post, but somedays just can't get

to it.

take care and God Bless

Your smart not to have it done , the carpal tunnel surgery that

is.... I had it done once on the right side and 3 times on the left.

Now that I know about RSD I believe that it is what was going on for

them to do the last 2 surgeries...... Like an dummy I let them operate

on my left elbow also... Now that i know about RSD that is the first

thing I am going to ask... Are you sure this isn't RSD?

Hi ,

Nice to meet you. I haven't read your bio yet but I know you must have

RSD or you wouldn't be here. So you have 2 teenage boys!! I have one

who will be 15 on November 22 and he is a handful. He is so full of life

and laughter! He has been my motivation for fighting RSD and moving on

with my life. I have had RSD since November 15, 1989 and have had many

ups and downs along the way. Many of us on this list have lots of

experience with different treatments, meds, holistic approaches to

managing pain, etc. and are willing to share what we have learned. The

best advice I can give for keeping your relationship with your sons

strong is to " stay involved " . Go to their swim meets, ball games,

whatever they do. Don't let the pain take that away from you. I know

how hard it is to get outside when it is cold but even if you are sitting

in the car, it means a lot to them just to have you there. I timed my

meds so I got the greatest effect when I needed it most. I am one of the

lucky few whose pain is under control right now due to a successful

surgery and haven't taken any meds since September 4, 2000 (well only 2

pain pills). Hang in there and stay involved with your sons, they

are almost grown and will be moving on with their lives before you know

it. My son says he is going to live with me forever so he never has to

pay bills!! LOL That will probably change though and I will be sorry to

see him move on in one sense but proud in another. Welcome to the group

, Debbie/DJ

I believe that the nerve conduction test they are referring to is

called an EMG or something like that. They stick needles with wires

on the ends of them , which are hooked up to a machine to measure the

nerve conductivity and also how much damage there are in the nerves.

I failed mine. Yes it is bad, I cried all during the procedure.

Just prepare yourself and it will be over in no time. Wanted to let

you know.

Hi, I also believe they are talking about an EMG. I have had several in the

past, on different body parts, and they can be awful, or they can be ok. It all

depends on the doc and how good he is. The one thing I have learned is to ask

the Doc to tell you when he is going to do a stick ( actually insert the needle)

this makes a difference, also they do have a topical agent they can use to numb

the skin to reduce the pain of the insertion. Since they are testing the nerves

below the skin level it makes no difference on the outcome of the test. I hope

this helps, also you should call the Doc and ask about taking your meds before

the EMG as some meds can make a difference on the outcome of the test.

Yes it means nerve damage if you fail. I had a lot of it. Most of

it permanent. Good luck to you and may God be with you. Mine (the

EmG) hurt like hell. Please prepare yourself ok especially with the

RSD......

Hi ,

If you don't show any nerve damage it confirms RSD.

It is just something else to subject you to. It is not fun at all. I made the

doctor stop it was so painful. Try to relax and not tense up. I wish there

were something positive I could add.

When do you go for it?

Hugs and a pain free minute,

Deb

,

Welcome and sorry to hear you're like the rest of us. You truly said it

right about your kids. Enjoy them every day. When we were expecting our

two children I kept a diary on the computer and now have a nice story that

we treasure as they will when they get older. Do you have any names for the

baby boy? athan from our group and his wife are also expecting and also

(?)-a young lady in our group. My foggy brain again.
