HI, internet is new to me, so I hope I do this correctly.I am 38

years old, two children 7 and 9, and had my tubes tied about 3 years

ago. About 1 year ago I started having heavy/clotty periods and

break through bleeding. I hd an ultrasound with " normal " results. My

gyn then suggested birth control pills for 3 mos. to see what would

happen before rushing to a d & c. During the 3 mos I had no

breakthrough but continued very heavy clotting periods. I stopped

the pill last month, got my period on Oct. 3, and had breakthrough

bleeding since. Last monday (oct 22) I noticed I had a strange

watery discharge. After several days I called my gyn, Thurs. night.

He said see him fri. am. However, I woke up Thurs 4:30 am to go to

the bathroom, I had a (watery) soaked pad. Remembering a story from a

friend who had left a tampon in, I thought maybe I had done something

as stupid. I " scoped " my insides with my finger, and then began

GUSHING bleeding. After screaming hysterically, My husband took me

to the E.R., as suggested by my gyn. I had no pain, but my insides

did not feel right. The er dr. gave me an internal (my blood work

was normal) and said to me " honestly, I do not know what I am looking

at, It looks like your uterus is prolapsing. He called my gyn, who

then suggested I go to his office at 8:30, do not eat or drink. My

bleeding had stopped, by the time I got to ER. My dr. then gave me

an internal, and told me I was a very lucky woman. My fibroid (which

had still not been diagnosed)was delivering itself like a baby. He

said I was about and hour away from a hysterectomy. He explained how

most fibroids grow withing the uterine wall, but mine had grown

inside the uterus itself. He then removed the fibroid, we all agreed

was about the size of an apricot, corterized the area and said I

would be fine, nothing internal for atleast 2 wks, at my next visit.

He said this should solve my problems and explain my bleeding.

Yahoo, I feel very relieved and better mental and physically than I

have in months. I am only just now reading the " fibroid " sights and

becoming educated on the subject. I have not found any

other " stories " like mine. I have a few unanswered questions. Is my

situation that unique? Am I now to assume I am prone to fibroids and

may have more? I guess only time will tell, if this epsiode will

solve my problem. I will follow up with my gyn on the 13th.Thanks

How scary for you! I have never read about anything happening like

this! I bet you are glad that this is behind you. Hopefully you

won't have further problems with fibroids. I don't think there's

really a way to predict if you will have future problems or not.

Some say that if you have several years until menopause and already

have fibroids, that your chance of reoccurrence is greater. Maybe

since you only had one (so far), you'll be lucky and won't get any

more. It's really a guessing game. Just make sure that your GYN

monitors you very closely so he can catch them early on.

Best of luck!

Mak, sounds like you are very blessed and have a wonderful doctor. I can't

say I've ever heard a story like yours.
