Guest guest
I had my interview with the program director today at IMPACT. Except for the fact that it was during naptime, so I'll have to go back to observe the class, it went well. The class is inclusive and contains several different types of special needs kids, plus some NT ones. I also called around and got the opinions of the rest of Nicky's current therapists. They all agreed that dev daycare would probably be very good for him, but that if he was making good progress with his current therapists, it would be best to try to keep them in place. It was in the midst of talking to the therapists that I found out a rather disturbing piece of news. Evidently, at least in this state, if a service has been approved for a child, EIP has to allow you to choose any institution that they cover to obtain those services. In other words, Mindy lied to me about having to make a choice between one or the other place. Nicky can go to daycare at IMPACT, and still go to CRC for his SLP and OT. And, since he is approved for PT, I can have that started at any of the 5 places on their list of providers. Any time I choose. Not when the EIP beaurocrats get off their butts. Furthermore, I found out from IMPACT that they never had a waiting list for SLP. (I think I posted something quite awhile back, bemoaning the fact that, at the time, all Nicky was receiving was ABA out of our pockets. He wasn't receiving SLP because, although he was approved, EIP told me that all their SLP providers had long waiting lists.) In other words, this wans't the first time she has lied to me. I wonder how many other things she told me were fabricated? Well, anyway, that's water under the bridge. Right now, and for the next six months, the news is great. Nicky can get most of the services he needs covered by EIP from the places that he is most likely to make progress. Yay!!! B Is it good or bad? > I need some opinions. > > I finally managed to get Nicky into SLP and OT at the same place (Children's Rehabilitation Center), and they are working on getting approval for him to get PT there as well. He is really enjoying it, and is making good progress, however he still is getting no socialization except with his family. About 5 months ago I tried to see about getting him into a developmental daycare, but we couldn't afford it out of pocket, and EIP didn't want to pay for it. > > Today, however, Nicky's case manager, Mindy called to tell me that she has managed to convince her supervisor that they should sponsor Nicky in the dev daycare, starting next week, as part of his transition to school in 6 months. The one string attached is that I would have to move his SLP and OT to the place that does the daycare as well (IMPACT). They will do PT there with him too. > > Now, I have chacked out IMPACT already, and they seem to be very good, but I'm afraid that Nicky will not transition well from CRC to IMPACT. > > So my choices are to go through IMPACT to get all his services, including dev daycare, or to do without the dev daycare and leave the rest of his services where I know he is happy and making progress. > > What would you do? > > B > > >

For example we are doing a new IFSP on to prepare for her transition. I want the therapists to have specific goals in mind. I was told that the goal had to be broad (bullsh**). So I'm still waiting but today I'm writing the coodinator to make sure I have a copy in writing that I want a team meeting. G

For I usually write a " thank you " letter after an important phonecall, covering all the important bases covered in the conversation. It's dated, and sent certified. They may never acknowledge it, but they know I put it in writing, and I know they have seen it, in writing. With all other small phonecalls, or calls that don't cover too much - I have a log in my MS WORD, of each call I've made the SD, who answered <based on " PUSD - this is _______, can i help you? " > and what message I left, or who I spoke to about what at what time on what day. Seems rather anal, but it helps ME remember whether I should be ticked off and bitchy, or whether I should be sweet and loving LOL. Guest guest
That's a great idea! B Re: Is it good or bad? Guest guest
And I am notoriously bad at keeping written logs. I always forget about them, or put them off until I have forgotten details, or my logbook disappears when one of the boys decides he needs to borrow it. Maybe if I glue a little notebook close to the phone... B Re: Is it good or bad? Guest guest
Amazing what you find out when you talk to people, huh? Penny
Guest guest
I don't think it's anal at all...I think it's very necessary. Usually I'm just too lazy to do it, or my notes are scattered all over sticky notes. :-) Penny >>> Seems rather anal, but it helps ME remember whether I should be ticked off and bitchy, or whether I should be sweet and loving LOL.
