Guest guest
Li, I had a myomectomy 8 years ago, I was 36 at the time. The fibroids were all on the outside of the uterus, so the surgeon did not have to cut all the way through the uterus. He took out 9 fibroids, one was the size of a grapefruit (largest), a couple were just a few centimeters. Eight months later I was pregnant. We did an ultrasound at 4 months and discovered there were two small fibroids in the uterus with the fetus. We did two follow up ultrasounds over the course of the pregnancy but there were never any problems from the fibroids. I had my son with natural childbirth, there was absolutely no problem from the fibroids and my uterus was fine. Robyn Post myo and deliver by natural birth Hi all, I would like to know if anyone out there deliver her baby by natural birth after myo? How big and location were your fibroids before the surgery? Any info will be helpful! Thanks! -Li
Guest guest
Robyn, Thanks a lot for the reply. This gives me a lot of encouragement. I had a big firboid about 11-14cm removed by myo, but the fibroid is mostly intramural. My surgeon told me that he did not cut all the way to the endometrium layer, but the cut is pretty big. He recommed me to have C-session if I am going to get preg. I really would like to have a natural child deliver if it is possible. So you said your fibroids were mostly outside of your uterus. Do you know how close the big one is to your endometrium (lining or uterus cavity) ? So your fibroids were not in the uterus wall? Thanks again, -Li > Li, I had a myomectomy 8 years ago, I was 36 at the time. The fibroids were all on the outside of the uterus, so the surgeon did not have to cut all the way through the uterus. Guest guest
Hi Li, If your surgeon recommended a c-section, I would go by his recommendation. It won't do your baby any good if his/her mommy bleeds to death. I will require c-sections as well and my surgeon didn't have to cut through all the way for any of my fibroids, but he did a lot of cutting... He said that my uterus would be too weak to go through contractions and the natural child birth process which could result in my uterus rupturing and me bleeding to death. Wouldn't you rather that you and your baby go through child birth safe and sound. I know that I would just worry to no end throughout my pregnancy if I was going to attempt natural childbirth knowing that my surgeon did not recommend it. Just my thoughts... > > Li, I had a myomectomy 8 years ago, I was 36 at the time. Guest guest
Li, I don't think they were in the uterine wall, but I don't know that for sure. It's been 8 years so my memory is a little fuzzy. I will see if I can dig out more information from my files (might take me a few days). Guest guest
I second your suggestion. I had a myo and my doctor said that I will need to have c-section deliveries in the future. for me, that was that. I fugure, if I am able to have the baby, Li, I'd rather have a safe, somewhat uneventful birth and go thru the abdomen pain later on than the possibility of uterine rupture during labor or before. > > > Li, I had a myomectomy 8 years ago, I was 36 at the time. Guest guest
Thanks a lot for your guys suggestions. My dr. did tell me that there was a 5% of the chance of uterus rupture. But I just do not want to accept it right now unless I am absolutely sure that C- session will be the best way to go. I am only 32 and thinking about to have one or two children in the future. I just do not like the idea that going through so many abdominal surgeries in the future. But if this is the only choice I have I guess I will just have to take it! But I did read somewhere that the uterus has an amazing ability to recover... I know a girl had simlar size of fibroid and her dr. told her that she can have natural child birth. My doctor did say that he was very conservative on this. He thinks I have one big fibroid (10cm), so there is this one big incision in the uterus wall that he can not sure that will be able to sustain the contraction for the natural childbirth. But I can still not get over that just because this 5% chance that something bad might happen, I will give up trying a natural birth. I can always go for an emergency C-session I thought. Guest guest
Li, I was looking at a book at the bookstore today by a Naturopath, Tori Hudson, Women's Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, and her point was that there are two points of view on the subject, one that you can do natural childbirth after myomectomy and one that you can't. Like said, if it was me I would take my doctor's recommendation on this one, just because you don't want to risk either of you. I did find a note in another book by a Dr. Ivan Strauz (entitled something about no hysterectomies) where he recommended that you get the actual report from your surgeon about what exactly he did and give that to your gynecologist so they have the most information. Good luck with all of this. Guest guest
Hi, I too have been told that I will require a c section due to a recent myo for a fibroid that was min 10cm. I am ok with this as I just recently heard of a woman who was very small that had her uterus rupture during child birth because the baby was so large. Both she and the baby are fine, which is very fortunate. Unfrotunately, to save her life they had to do a complete hyst on her. Between having another similar surgery to the myo, the c section, and risking losing my life, a baby who has no choice and a uterus. I would rather err on a safer side, which would be for a c section. That's just my thoughts...good luck! > > > Li, I had a myomectomy 8 years ago, I was 36 at the time.
