Guest guest
, Sounds like things have been going well for you. So glad to hear it! The first IEP meeting is scary. I still remember ours about two years ago. But we survived and I'm sure you'll be fine too. Although I have a few more gray hairs that I earned during that first meeting! Guest guest
That's wonderful that your uncles are helping out. How long can they stay? Do they see the problems involved with trying to do everything herself? Jane Good News sounded better last night. Uncle Elbert & Bill bought take out lunch & dinner yesterday, so she didn't have to cook except for preparing Mother's food. Billl took to the grocery store & (most important) carried the groceries into the house! Even helped her put groceries away! plans to leave Mother with them today while she goes in for her blood test. She's still sleep deprived, but it's helping that Mother has her brother there to visit. Thanks for all the prayers & thoughts. Keep them coming. ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here Please visit our website at:http://ACES_Autoimmune.tripod.com

Guest guest
They're planning to stay for the week, so I guess until Fri? I haven't talked to them yet, but I'm sure Bill sees the true situation. He just moved so he can be closer to Uncle Elbert & because they still insist on staying at home. He's getting out of the house some, taking her to pick up fast food, driving past his great-grandfather's old farm - sounds like he's looking for ways to get her out some. Mother's gel pad came today! says Mother is more comfortable & we all hope she sleeps better tonight. -- Re: Good News That's wonderful that your uncles are helping out. How long can they stay? Guest guest
So glad to hear that! Did she sleep better last night? That would make all the difference for them both. Did they get a lift yet? It's so much better for pain, skin , circulation and spirits if she can get out of bed at least once a day. ((((hugs)))) Kathy Re: Good News That's wonderful that your uncles are helping out. Guest guest
Also--tell to read the directions carefully or question whoever they got it from--some of these types of pads are to be used WITHOUT sheets and wipe up easily--which would be much easier on her. Also if it's to be used without a sheet, using one cuts down on it's effectiveness Kathy Re: Good News That's wonderful that your uncles are helping out. How long can they stay? Guest guest
OK--if she's getting hot then the next step would be an alternating pressure air mattress, since the gel pad can't help if it isn't on the bed. shouldn't need to move her much if she's on the gel pad since she would just be rolled to be put on the bedpan or lift pad or diaper change and if she is in the center of the bed that shouldn't involve having to actually "move" her. If your Mom needs to be on her side at times should be able to just roll her onto her side and put a wedge in place. Maybe someone needs to teach proper body mechanics (this is part of the home health nurse or home PT's job)--believe me, even toward the end of my working days I turned and repositioned 500 pound people (NO I'm NOT exaggerating the weight--I've had no less than 10 of these patient's over the years and they all become bedbound) with very little difficulty. Also if your Mom can help at all she should, and if she is conscious she can. When turning her should use the bedrails to help--even if your Mom doesn't have the strength to actually help pull herself over placing her upper hand on the bed rail will help , even if has to place the hand there. As for moving her up in bed her feet should be in a "pushing " position even if she can't push with them. Oh, I wish I was there to demonstrate this stuff to , it's hard to explain. Even if she just gets her out of bed once a day, it's better than nothing. needs to do what we all did when our children were little and nap when your Mom does. If she's worried about the housework, cooking, etc the area agency on aging should be able to help with cleaning and meals on wheels. Is their washer on the same floor or does have steps to do? If she has steps then it is time to re-arrange the house so she doesn't. Kathy Re: Good News So glad to hear that! Did she sleep better last night? That would make all the difference for them both.
