Just wanted to point out that this may not necessarily be true. Authors have a way of skewing " research " to fit their agendas, and what new research, anyway? Were the results published in a medical journal? How was the research done? Are there any othe studies to confirm the findings? I'd take this one with a big grain of salt until I hear it from more than one source.
Guest guest
Sonja, Do the risks go away after the 2 - 3 months or are there always some residual effects left? It actually makes sense when you think about it. The pill has only been very widely used in the last 30 years or so I think. Now if you look at our generation (20 - 30's), there are incredible #s of women on the pill or who have been on the pill. I first got on the pill when I was 17, and many of my friends did as well. I have taken it on and off for 10 years or more. It was never a question for me - I was sexually active and wanted to avoid pg - it made it easy. I'd hate to think I'm paying for it now. Which of course leads me to my newest obsession - karma!!! What did I do to end up in this predicament???? Guest guest
Tara Don't eat yourself up wondering what you did- the companies that manufacture the PILL should be more carefull about what info. they leave out of the side effects section. Someone should confront them on this. The reason I wrote about the risks is to let you all know that it could have been the pills' fault, which is one more reason to believe that it really wasn't anything you did. They say that it can take as long as 6 months for all the synthetic hormones to leave your system, but usually it takes between 3 to 5 months. The synthetic hormones basically acts like a 'aneathetic' on your tubes - they can actually make the little fimbrea ( hair like thingies in your tubes that moves the fertilised egg to the uterus)numb, almost paralysing them, which is why the egg cannot get to the uterus, and results in a ectopic. The other effect is that the pill makes your uterine lining unfaviorable to the egg, so the egg cannot attach to the uterine wall. When you go off the pill, this effect can take a while to rectify itself, so when the egg gets to the uterus, and cannot attach, it moves back into either fallopian tube, or sometimes even the ovaries, and attaches there, again resulting in ectopic. Unfortunately the little leaflet you get inside your bcp. pack does not tell you about these risks. The other thing I found out was that if you tend to suffer from severe hayfever, you should'nt take the pill, because it actually aggrivates the condition. I have been a chronic hayfever sufferer for the last 13 years, and especially the last 3 my hayfever has become almost unbearable, even causing minor asthma, but not once did I think that it might actually be my bcp's causing the effects. The list of major side effects is apparantly about 4 A4 sheets long, which is why they don't print them all on the leaflet that goes in your box. It seems that they feel breakthrough bleeding is more serious than ectopics or allergy. There are some natural remedies that you can take which will speed up your recovery. True unicorn root, False unicorn root, motherwart amongst others. I will read up on the list and post them later. Remember to always check before you take anything, that it won't interfere with what you are already taking.
