3rd scan coming up

Hi Ellen,

After my TT 7/98, they gave me 150 mCi does of RAI.

Had a Thyrogen scan 12/99, showed uptake, so dr.

scheduled a 30 mCi dose. 2/00. Had another Thyrogen

scan 2/01, again showed uptake so this time 4/01, dr.

gave me 210 mCi dose. I had changed endos. after the

30 mCi dose and the new endo. said he would of given

me a higher dose the 2nd time. Had another Thyrogen

scan this past Fri., but have to go back this Wed. for

a second scan, so I'm crossing my fingers this scan

will be clean. So I'd say you should be getting a

higher dose.

Hi, I'm Ellen from AZ.

I was diagnosed with 1 cm. Papillary and had TT 12-99

followed by

27.4 mCi dose of RAI. Started .15 dose Synthroid.

TSH was .08 for a year, felt depressed and tired.

One year later, went hypo, TSH climbed to 70, TG was

20.1 Did LID and

scan showed uptake in neck. Repeat dose 29.1 mCi!!!

Changed to

Levoxyl .15 dose and felt much better, less depression

and fatigue.

TSH has been .03 on same dose.

2nd year coming up. I just went off Levoxyl

yesterday. Going cold

turkey, Cytomel makes me too shaky. I'm scheduled for

my scan on

12-14. I'm doing the LID again. New endo scheduled a

FBS and

possible 100 mCi RAI dose IF there is still uptake.

Thyrogen not an

option yet.

Question, asking anyone who has had similar

experience with 2 low

doses of RAI to tell me if a third higher dose was

necessary. I'm

just trying to get a feel for the likelyhood of having

yet another

uptake.

I'm interested in the people getting multiple RAI as my doc seems to opt

for surgery. Is the difference that if there are palpable identifiable

lumps then take them with surrgery but if there is scattered " small

bits " of disease use RAI?
